Dear Social Media Managers, If your role is limited to just sharing content ideas with the graphic design team, leaving the responsibility of how the visuals are created entirely to them, then it’s not fair to take full credit for the success of those social media posts. The ideal role of a social media manager goes beyond simply identifying content ideas. It’s about deeply understanding audience preferences, platform-specific trends, and how visual elements engage users. Social media managers should be able to guide not just what content needs to be shared, but how it should look visually. This includes the format, style, key messaging, and specific design elements that will resonate with your audience. Only after this research and planning should the idea be handed over to graphic designers, ensuring they can create visuals aligned with your social media strategy. Unfortunately, many social media managers avoid this deeper level of involvement because it requires significant effort in research and trend analysis. Relying solely on graphic designers to handle the visual strategy isn’t the right approach. Social media managers should have control over the look, feel, and strategic elements of visuals to ensure they align with the overall campaign objectives. Of course, social media managers don’t need to oversee the technical aspects of design—this is where graphic designers excel, ensuring the final product is polished and professional.
