Center for Rural Pennsylvania does crucial work. Here you can see how we are doing with those vital spokes of community networks, the library. This map sort of reflects population density. I'd love to know county libraries per capita? Library spending per capita and by source? Looking at my region for Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection, North Central, Potter, Tioga, and Bradford seem to have more libraries per capita than Clinton or Clearfield. Did some quicky math. Yep. Potter, way to go, has around 3.5 libraries per 10,000 people. Tioga and Bradford have around 1.5 per 10,000 people. Clearfield county, with a population of more than 80k, is only 1/2 a library per 10,000 people, comparable to Clinton County. Harry Hoy libraries... :)
In 2022, Pennsylvania had a statewide total of 622 public libraries. Do you have a library card? 📚 #DataGram https://lnkd.in/eA7d-j-X

Ashburton District Council has introduced a new visitor code of conduct for its community facilities. The new library, Te Whare Whakatere, opened in January, have trespassed 16 people since opening for causes including willful damage and problems with visitor behaviour. The code sets the behavioural expectations for visitors to the council's public facilities and includes a range of lesser consequences up to and including trespassing. Is this the new norm for public libraries? How many libraries have codes in place to ensure their facilities stay safe, connected spaces for their communities? 1News reports here: https://ow.ly/nOvV50Ugm66

Free people read freely. It’s that simple. But when books vanish and ideas are silenced, we have to ask: Who gets to decide? That’s why we resist—not to rebel, but to defend the freedom to think. Libraries are more than books—they’re lifelines. When they’re threatened, so is progress. Protect them. Read banned books. Defend open access. Stand for truth and let it breathe. This is why I’m proud to support Molly White and her fight against censorship. Free people don’t wait for permission to think. They protect the light of knowledge—for everyone. Share this. Keep the lights on. Defend open access to information. https://lnkd.in/gB7NYTt4

Our public libraries aren’t just full of great reads and resources – they are vital spaces to bring our communities together, right across the Territory. It’s why this 5 year strategy to develop our public library sector is so important. The strategy identifies a whole lot of areas to work on so that our libraries continue to provide as much value to their communities as possible.
