Is your child having a nightmare or a night terror? From talking to many parents over the years, I know this can be a tricky question. However, it’s helpful to know that nightmares and night terrors are quite different, happening in separate stages of sleep and needing different approaches. I'd like to break it down for you to make it easier to know which is which and how best to respond. ❓ What am I describing? Is this a nightmare or a night terror? 🌜 Occurrence: This typically happens during REM (rapid eye movement) sleep, usually in the second half of the night. 🌜Awareness: The child wakes up crying and may be anxious and afraid for some minutes. They may remember the experience in the morning. 🌜Behaviour: Children may call out and seek comfort, and they are usually easily consoled by their parents. 🌜Cause: Often triggered by stress, anxiety, or scary experiences. 🌜Duration: The child may need time to calm and may take some time to return to sleep. 🌜Age Group: Typically peaks around age 3 to 10 years of age. ❤️ What to do: Parents should offer comfort and reassurance. Love to hear your thoughts..... #ParentingTips #ChildSleep #SleepHealth #Nightterrors #Nightmares #ChildDevelopment

Let me begin by saying this situation is completely normal; so if you're going through it, you're definitely not alone. At this age, children often do really well with rise and shine clocks and reward charts to encourage motivation. You can also develop a social story about bedtime routines, going to bed and staying in our beds until the clock tells us it's time to get up. This allows your child to be prepared for what's to come. Toddlers thrive off of structure and predictability. The first night can be the most challenging, but each night will get easier if you have clear expectations, boundaries and maintain consistency. It is also important to keep returning your child to their bed each time they wake while reminding them to stay in their bed until the clock shows it is time to wake. Remember, it is never too late to establish solid sleep habits for your child. You've got this! If you think you're ready for changes to sleep in your home, but would like support in doing so, connect with us today. #sleeptips #toddlersleep #parenthood

In those early years of raising your son, characterized by sleep deprivation, hormonal fluctuations, and the transition from a couple to a family, there will be times when life seems overwhelming. You immerse yourself in parenting books and blogs, have conversations with family & friends, and join online communities, striving to do your best as this little bundle becomes the focal point of your universe. As your child begins to explore independence and still believes the world revolves around them, tantrums become a significant aspect of many parents' lives. It's exhausting. Initially, you remain calm and patient, employing explanations, distractions, and navigating the balance of discipline/guidance. As he nears his second birthday the tantrums escalate, despite the groundwork you've laid. Frustration for you both is a common emotion! You thought a lot of this was behind you. He knows how to behave! What more can you do? Pause. He's just two years old. That's 370 days – yes, you read that correctly, three hundred and seventy days – on this Earth. Let's rewind: day one, he arrives, a bundle of the tiniest human you've ever intimately encountered. He breathes, gazes, cries, feeds – and we're captivated by it all! Initially, we meticulously document each milestone, but life's demands can make us lose sight of the ongoing miracle. When frustration mounts over persistent tantrums that you expect should have diminished by now, take a moment to pause and count. Count the number of DAYS since his arrival. That figure can halt you in your tracks, offering a fresh perspective and prompting reflection on whether our behavior expectations align with his days of existence. It can truly shift the game! So, how many DAYS has your little one been by your side? #raisingkids #parenthood #boys #raisingboys #sonhood #parentsofboys #parentingcoach #parentingadvice #raisingaboy #parenting #toddlers #tempertantrums #perspective

Gentle Holistic Infant and Toddler Sleep Coach - Understanding Child Sleep & Behaviour - Truly Gentle Toddler Nightweaning - Parenting with Love and Connection
Independence comes from the security and safety of trusted dependency in us. Trust that they can depend on us, that we will respond without resistance, without them needing to try or perform for our love and dependency, they can lean into it, relax in it, rest in it. Society is obsessed with independence and obsessed with your child sleeping alone, meaning their independent. This is truly not the case! Independence is a long journey built through a chain of trust and a bond with your little one that allows independence to grow at its own pace, in its own, unique way. From what age do you think children should sleep alone every night? Do you feel this is a marker of their level of independence? #independentsleep #toddlersleep #sleepingthrough #holisticsleepcoach #responsivesleepsupport #gentlesleepconsultant #parents
