This, this right here, is why we have MAGA Republicans, because this isn’t OK! If you are a democrat, left wing, liberal, etc, start policing your own people! Start toning down that rhetoric, start having expectations of civilized behavior. STOP forcing your beliefs on others or running them over if they believe differently than you do, please!

One of my biggest regrets is failing to take action to reduce gun violence before I was shot. Tomorrow marks six years since that day, and I've spent every day working to make up for my mistake." In moments like these, many Americans are frightened for their safety and the safety of their children. Don't wait like I did—take action NOW to protect your loved ones. Here’s how you can make a difference: 1️⃣ If you're in Kentucky, sign our petition in support of CARR. This is the only temporary transfer bill in America with bipartisan support and it could save lives. https://buff.ly/4bwKljD 2️⃣ If you're outside of Kentucky, contact your state Senators & Representatives. Let them know you want to see Republicans & Democrats come together to protect our kids. https://buff.ly/2rnlACf Let us remember those we’ve lost. We can do better - but only when we all act together.

A reminder for Domestic Violence Awareness Month: Domestic Violence Restraining Orders (DVROs in CA) include a host of protections for survivors AND are firearm and ammunition prohibiting. In all 50 states, similar DV civil protection or restraining orders can (for the most part) or must or may include firearm and ammunition prohibitions either under state or federal law (see https://lnkd.in/gmRi4pbb). I'm hoping this month provides folks with opportunities to learn more about how important it is to apply the right tool/legal remedy in these high-risk matters. There is a free webinar coming up this week focusing on California law where I'll be covering more about the importance of fair and effective implementation of DV-specific firearm prohibiting remedies in the state and nationally. You can register for it here: https://lnkd.in/g6fyt3-k

This will be my very first post in which I won't be as positive as usual. This video shows exactly why no officer should be on patrol alone. Yet, in this country, officers are even sent on foot patrol alone, even though most are unarmed and don't carry a taser. This is something I find challenging to understand in my transition journey. And I am not alone - when I tell my colleagues in Italy about this, they always struggle to believe it. In Italy, where I served in the Carabinieri police force, all officers were armed, there were no body-worn cameras, and we didn't have an equivalent of the IOPC, nor the same level of scrutiny seen in many common law countries. Nevertheless, our patrols always had a minimum of two officers, sometimes three, which is also the minimum suggested to handle a prisoner safely. In over a decade of service in Italy, I encountered in a period of a month or two the level of violence, disrespect, antagonism, and resistance that I face here in a single set or two. I know I am very new to this reality, and I don't want to criticise a country and my new police family that have given me this opportunity. Eventually, with time, I will understand and see things that I can't see now. I'm always open to changing my mind and broadening my view. However, if there hasn't been evidence-based research on the risks of solo patrols, now is probably the time to undertake it. I believe this culture of solo patrols is a "cultural legacy" that made sense when society was different. However, in recent years, things have changed, and exposing officers to such risks is, in a sense, disconnected from reality. #PoliceSafety #ModernPolicing #OfficerWellbeing #PatrolPolicy #PublicSafety
Watch the moments PS Foster, PS Ansell and PC Wolstencroft are confronted by a knife-wielding attacker as they responded to a road traffic collision. They were awarded at the Police Federation National Bravery Awards last night. Sadly, this is only one of many police officer assaults which happen each year. Superintendent Marcus Noden said, “Of the total assaults recorded, 75 of those between April 2023 and March 2024 have resulted in injury. What that means is 75 officers removed from their duties at the hands of others, some for months. “Losing these officers from their duties not only means our capacity to respond to incidents is reduced, but as is our capacity to help those that really need us." The case of Kyle Rittenhouse is such a roller coaster of an example of how difficult it is to ascertain #truth regarding contentious matters, how #fluid #facts can seem, and how easily our #understanding can be influenced by #confirmation #bias and #narratives. This guy has gone from being a #pariah to being a #hero to being a #douchebag where even the people who were helping him have washed their hands of him. Even after a public #trial and years for the dust to settle, we still can't easily figure out what exactly happened the night he shot people because there's so much #divisiveness, #polarization, lack of #calmness, and a high noise-to-signal ratio on the whole topic. Read these threads. They are #fascinating examples of how hard it is to discern what is #fact, what is #fiction, and what is #opinion. How can I as an outsider know which are which? https://lnkd.in/gUuWeBJ7 https://lnkd.in/gfr4yi6f This is the #complexity regarding a contentious situation that happened years ago with much #media attention and a proper #trial in a US #court of #law. How is anyone supposed to make sense of even more controversial things happening in #war zones in real-time? I'm convinced more and more that I can't easily pass #judgment in real-time about anything, and maybe still can't even after years pass. But... is it possible to live in this world without making any judgments at all? #misinformation #disinformation #malinformation #falseinformation #rumours #rumors
