Last week, I had a great opportunity to learn from former Cisco Meraki interns, now full-time employees, in a panelist Q&A. Here are a few takeaways that resonated with me: 1. Ask Questions: Show a genuine interest in the work you do. Your mentor is a helpful resource for you to learn about the company and how your project fits in with the goals of your team and the company. Questions show that you are actively thinking about improving your project and yourself, and are unafraid of asking for help. 2. Go out of your comfort zone: An internship is a great opportunity to try new things. Set up coffee chats with people outside your team or take the opportunity to present at your team’s standup. 3. Focus on your project for the sake of its impact, not just the return offer: Cisco Meraki’s internship projects set you up as part of the team and allow you to do work that matters as an intern. Concentrate on bringing value with your project, its key results, and the steps to achieve them. 🚀 Exciting Journey, New Horizons 🚀 I am thrilled to share the successful completion of my summer internship at Optical Networks and Technologies Lab (ONT)! This incredible experience has been nothing short of enlightening and transformative. Over the course of three enriching months, from July to September 2023, I had the privilege of delving deep into the world of networking. During my internship, I had the opportunity to work with the brilliant minds at ONT Labs and dive into the intricate world of SONiC (Software for Open Networking in the Cloud), a cutting-edge networking OS. The learning curve was steep, but the knowledge and experience gained were absolutely invaluable. Here are some of my major achievements during this internship: 1️⃣ Understanding Cutting-Edge Network Technologies: I had the privilege of delving into the fascinating realm of SONiC and Software-Defined Networks (SDNs). These technologies are at the forefront of networking innovation, and I'm grateful for the hands-on experience I gained. 2️⃣ Networking Simulations in GNS3: I honed my skills in designing and configuring various networking simulations in GNS3, allowing me to explore different network topologies and scenarios. It was an excellent way to bridge theory with practical implementation. 3️⃣ Implementing LAN, VLAN, and Protocols in SONiC: I had the chance to work on the nitty-gritty of networking, configuring LANs, VLANs, and various protocols within the SONiC environment. It was a challenging yet immensely rewarding experience. 4️⃣ Utilizing Ansible Playbooks for Configuration: Leveraging Ansible playbooks to configure different protocols over SONiC was a valuable skill I acquired. This automation tool streamlines network management and reduces manual overhead. I'm deeply grateful for the mentorship, support, and opportunities provided by Mati Ur Rahman bhae and all other ONT team members. This internship has not only enriched my technical skills but also allowed me to connect with some of the brightest minds in the field of networking. As I conclude this chapter and step into new horizons, I am excited to apply the knowledge and experience I've gained during my summer internship. Today, I had the opportunity to attend a Software Engineering Department Spotlight at Cisco Meraki as part of my internship. It was great to hear from Kevin Hurley, an engineering manager, about his experiences, background, and the structure of the department. A few key takeaways that resonated with me: 1.
