𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐆𝐮𝐚𝐫𝐝 𝐂𝐥𝐚𝐮𝐬𝐞𝐬? How to create the custom ones? 👇 Guard clauses are conditional statements placed at the beginning of a function or method. They check for certain conditions and exit the method early if those conditions are met. This allows early exit from a method if needed. Commonly, they are used to validate arguments passed into a method, ensuring they meet certain criteria (like not being null, being within a specific range, etc.). By handling edge cases or invalid inputs at the start, they simplify the logic that follows, as you don't need to consider these cases later in the method. How to implement this feature? I will explain this in the next .NET Pro Weekly Newsletter issue on Monday. And also I'll give a source code. More than 10,300 engineers will receive this issue. Be sure not to miss it, and join them, it's completely free: https://lnkd.in/dQDTpYcf #dotnet #dotnetcore #softwaredevelopment

Two main reasons why I use records for DTOs: - Immutability - Primary constructors Immutability is important because I don't want anyone changing my DTOs. Primary constructors are helpful for concise syntax. You can use records in C# 9 and later versions. As far as naming conventions go, I often see: - [TypeName]Dto - [TypeName]Model - [TypeName]Response I almost exclusively use the last example. My APIs consist of a request, an endpoint, and a response. So, my types follow the same naming convention. I'll have a request type for each endpoint and a response type. If you enjoyed this, you will love The .NET weekly newsletter. More than 45,000+ engineers already read it. Subscribe here: https://bit.ly/48Kvi4i Do you prefer classes or records for API responses?
