"2024 is my year!", "2024 New me, new goals!", "My year of promotion!". It's that time of the year again, setting new goals and articulating our plans and vision for yet another promising year. In high spirits, we are all developing our vision boards and making them plain. So many of us do this ritual, but only a few will go on to end the year counting their blessings and being grateful for how fruitful the year was. There are numerous reasons for this and a major cause of this is inaction from individuals. It's a pity that some of us would still live on this year with that destructive habit of inaction that fuels procrastination and birth poverty. The ability to get things done is paramount to the bounty we get out of the year. Another is knowledge. So many of us want promotions but are not willing to pay the price for them. A Year Like No Other As 2023 draws to a close I feel nothing but gratitude. I took the plunge with TrueInfo Labs this year not knowing what would be in store. I have had some very unique learnings and obsessed over things I never thought I would. 1. Cash flow is king 👑 This year I chased invoices more than dreams. As I learnt that they are very intricately tied to each other. 2. Obsessing over client experience is a good obsession 💭 My most favorite client moment of the year was when a prospect who had been introduced by an existing client stopped me at the 2nd slide of my company pitch and said ‘I have been told the most important thing I need to know about your company and that is that you are extremely responsive and provide top notch client experience.’ 3. Large Language Models are a winner and in my case breadwinner too 🏆 In interacting with Large Language Models for a year I understood that interacting with them is like interacting with Einstein albeit when he was in his early teens. You know there is genius but you have to deal with the tantrums too (I am patenting this quote btw :)) 4. Innovation loop is now 30 days 👍 It may sound funny but I have literally had to reinvent many core ideas every month in order to stay ahead of the game. I suspect that will become every fortnight in 2024. 5. Genuine empathy always helps This year I finally saw all the benefits of my relationship building. From a client who paid me right at the start of the project as he knew he was the first client for the company and my company needed it to a former client who referred me to several of his clients without asking or expecting absolutely anything to some of my closest friends and colleagues who generously continue to give time to bounce off my ideas I saw empathy up close this year. As I look forward to 2024 I also want to thank every member of the TrueInfo Labs team who took a risk with joining a startup but who are helping build the company brick by brick. Literally. I've been away for a bit, and I had someone awesome managing my account. But you know what? I enjoyed "THREE BITES OF THE CHERRY", I call it a well-taught-out way of keeping people engaged. All regards to John Mc Keown. Even though I've been away, it doesn't mean I've been inactive. I've taken the time to reflect on the next steps I need to take while impacting people around me. In my current local setting, I've noticed certain gaps that need filling. So, I've teamed up with some incredible minds to make a positive impact in the region and eventually expand through Europe and Africa. Taking this step feels bold, but I'm not afraid. I've gained valuable insights from overcoming challenges, much like the lessons learned from "Outwitting the Devil." My main concern is making a meaningful contribution to this world, adhering to the mantra, "Whatever you find yourself doing, do it purposefully and with all your might." This initiative is just one part of what we have in store for Q1 of 2024. There are other exciting schemes in the pipeline. I recently read a compelling piece by my friend Ral Andrew, and it begins with "2024 is not the time to make up your mind." Some folks call me Aba Boy, and only those who understand it know my direction. But overall, I'm emerging stronger, and I don't foresee anything hindering my progress. After a challenging seven-month journey, becoming a Tech4Dev Women Techsters Fellow in 2024 (Data Science) has been nothing short of a rollercoaster ride. From the nerve-wracking application process, which included crafting a compelling video, going through the alumni-led interview, and taking a test. Imposter syndrome hit me hard, and I questioned myself, asking what I was doing by applying for this program. I kept wondering why I believed they would choose me when there were so many experienced individuals vying for the same opportunity. The uncertainty grew, and I even confided in my best friend, Uzoma and shared my insecurities and self-doubt. But Uzoma the steadfast pillar of support she is, refused to entertain any of my negative thoughts. Her unwavering belief in me and boundless encouragement were all the support I needed. In life, having a friend like her is crucial someone who genuinely cares and uplifts you. Today, I stand proudly as a Women Techster Fellow, filled with gratitude for this incredible journey. This opportunity is more than just a title; it's a gateway to a world of learning, growth, and connections with remarkable women. Your Friday Banger! 🔊 But first, people rolling to INBOUND, Saastr, Dreamforce, and OpsStars like: That's right, I went with the old school "Hackers" meme. Sometimes I think LinkedIn and the major events in our industry have a bit of a latent Hackers vibe. Or, at least the EDC, Ultra, or Tomorrowland festival version of an early 90s underground rave. We're all coming together to celebrate our technologies, our industry, and the more altruistic aspects of what we feel we're doing (or at least hope to be doing) in our careers. I'll be around Dreamforce and OpsStars in a couple weeks and hope to see lots of old friends and well as make new ones! The banger this week speaks (at least I think it does...) to connection, learning, and camaraderie... as well as fighting the system! I think it might actually be the unofficial RevOps and Business Systems anthem!🫡 But... more on that another time. It was a weird year, but it taught me some good lessons: 1. You can try really really hard but it doesn’t mean things are going to work out the way you want to want them to. Ask whether the process is meaningful and you’ll learn something along the way. Hopefully both applies or reconsider the effort. We don’t have unlimited time or resources. 2. Acknowledge how far behind you started compared to other people. Compare yourself only to yourself. You will never have someone else’s circumstances. It’s okay to remind other people of this fact too because some people pretend they had no help when they did. 3. Taking positions requires judgment and fortitude. People will disagree and be mad at you if they immaturely believe they are entitled to a world that agrees with them. Be someone who is reliably honest about what you believe in. 4. If someone gives advice that feels off, it may just be that they don’t really know how you work. It’s okay to reject advice or ignore it. 5. Refuel even when you don’t feel depleted. Emotional energy is not unlimited. If you don’t have self-discipline in this way, you may find yourself tapped out before you expect to be. 6. Move your body every day. We are human animals and we are made to move. 7. Amazon adds too many cardboard boxes to my life. There is no way to dispose of them. If you need an extra trash pickup, you order too much stuff. 8. There’s not enough enrichment in my enclosure is a perfect metaphor for everyone and everything 9. If your hair falls out, it’s probably a sign that something isn’t working. Ask yourself about literally everything to see if it’s working. Everything is on the table. 10. If I am not for me, no one will be. I sure learned that this year, and am applying it broadly.
