Here is the short of it. Michigan's surprise billing law is a success. Patients are no longer getting surprise bills saving hundreds or thousands of dollars. Networks have increased providing patients more access to care. Michigan has had as few hundred complaints, and only ONE (1) arbitration since the law was enacted in 2020. Contrast that with the hundreds of thousands of filed arbitrations under the Federal No Surprises Act. Those arbitrations are inflating healthcare costs by awarding triple the in-network rate. Patients protected, networks strengthened, and the market is stable. All in all a good outcome for Michigan’s patients and purchasers. #healthcarecosts #nosurprisesact #surprisebilling
