China has indeed made remarkable progress in various fields, including technology and innovation, helping it secure its position as the world's third-largest economy. One notable example of this innovation is Xpeng Motors, a prominent Chinese electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer that has ventured into the development of flying cars. Xpeng's flying car project is part of their broader effort to lead in the next generation of transportation. The company has been working on a flying vehicle under its subsidiary, HT Aero. Xpeng's flying car is designed to function both on the road and in the air, representing a significant leap in personal transportation technology. In 2021, Xpeng unveiled its concept for a flying car that is expected to be ready for mass production by 2024. This vehicle will have the ability to drive on regular roads, just like a conventional car, and take off vertically to fly short distances when needed. The development of such flying cars aligns with China's broader goals of advancing its technological capabilities and maintaining its growth trajectory as one of the world's largest economies. Xpeng's work on flying cars reflects the broader trend in China of investing in high-tech industries, from AI to autonomous driving, which is critical for sustaining its economic growth and global competitiveness.

Xpeng, a leading electric vehicle manufacturer, has expanded its self-driving system to all cities across mainland China, aiming to attract more local users before Tesla’s Full Self-Driving (FSD) software launches in China. This move positions Xpeng as the first mainland carmaker to deploy its semi-autonomous driving system nationwide. The new version of Xpeng's Navigation Guided Pilot (X NGP) represents a significant advancement in autonomous driving technology in the world’s largest EV market, according to CEO He Xiaopeng. Xpeng is making waves in the EV market with the launch of its first budget model under the new Mona brand, the M03 compact sedan. Priced between 119,800 yuan (€15,930) and 155,800 yuan (€20,720), the M03 is set to challenge market leader BYD by making advanced self-driving technology accessible to low and middle-income consumers in China. With a range of at least 515 km and a host of driver assistance tools, the M03 represents Xpeng's long-term vision to make affordable autonomous EVs. Aiming for young first-time car buyers on a budget of about 100,000 yuan (€13,300), the company will provide intelligence in vehicles that best fit customer budgets. CEO He Xiaopeng made a point to mention that this move is part of the greater strategy by Xpeng to bring semi-autonomous driving systems to the masses, with the goal eventually of developing fully autonomous vehicles at a similar price point. The commitment to innovation by Xpeng is further evidenced by its latest feat-to become the first mainland carmaker to extend its self-driving system to all cities across China. It follows the introduction last month of Nio's Onvo sub-brand and the L60 SUV, priced at 219,900 yuan, equivalent to €29,250 - a full 12% less than Tesla's Model Y. Competition is hotting up as Chinese carmakers accelerate the country's transition away from petrol models: half of all new cars sold on the mainland are now electric. Meanwhile, Xpeng's CEO confirmed in an interview its company's plans to set foot in Europe and build a manufacturing facility. Just like BYD, Geely and Chery, Xpeng looks for a way to avoid EU's recent tariffs on Chinese EVs by producing the vehicles locally. The plans are still in their early stages, and Xpeng is looking for a country with "relatively low labor risk." Luckily, Xpeng is already partnering with VW, so it believes it will be able to find a working solution sooner rather than later, what do you think about the Chinese EV Market making it's way into Europe? #xpeng #EV #electricvehicles #BYD

“The so-called China Electrical Architecture — developed with VW’s Chinese partner Xpeng Inc. — will allow advanced features such as autonomous driving to be continuously upgraded over-the-air, the German automaker said Wednesday. However, the first cars to use the new platform won’t hit the market until 2026, while such features and connectivity are already common place in many Chinese EVs.” Everyone who lived in China around the Beijing Summer Olympics will remember the VW Santanas all over Chinese roads. They were based on an older VW platform that was exported to China for fear that if they’d export their newer platforms, their technology would be stolen. Fast forward to now and VW is now partnering with a Chinese auto manufacturer, XPeng, hoping to acquire and benefit from their technology, even though they’ll be years behind what is currently available in China. To assume that China is just exporting cheap products is missing the picture. They’re out-innovating the Western world.

This Techopedia article caught my attention because I was close to Xpeng a few years ago and got to experience their electric vehicles (#EV) in Guangzhou, China. XPENG is introducing a budget EV model, the Mona M03, and the price is $16,800, truly a budget EV. The kicker is that it sports many autonomous driving features. It goes to my previous post about why our cars in the West insist on giving us luxury when so many want a stripped-down car for lowly commuting duties. And before you jump on the lack of quality rhetoric about Chinese products, think again. In 2019, I tested the company's G4 EV, a crossover with advanced autonomous driving features. At one point, we left the car to let it park in a spot we wouldn't have been able to get out of it. The car flawlessly maneuvered itself into a handkerchief parking spot without our assistance. And as to the quality of the car, it was there. If you go to China, drive an Xpeng and a NIO. It should make you think twice about how the country can provide quality and why the US and Europe are in upheaval about these cars invading our markets. It's a pickle, but not an unsolvable one. As this well-known Chinese saying goes, crossing the river by feeling the stones. Since its formalization, China has demonstrated great pragmatism vis-à-vis the application of innovation (Q1, Q2, Q3). Q1: "China has approved nine local automakers to test their self-driving technology on certain roads, including EV companies BYD and NIO, as well as state-owned Chongqing Changan Automobile and SAIC Motor." Q2: "The testing will be carried out in seven cities including Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou." Q3: "This marks the first time that China has approved testing of level 3 and level 4 autonomous driving technologies." https://lnkd.in/gRC5TR63
