Let's definitely talk about you... but before that just a "little" about us. So many of these from Rob I love but this one below grabbed me most of all. How many pitch decks "start out" being written all about the client and their audience and their issue of the day. How many meetings with a new client in the room "start out" as just a meeting to deliver what you were supposed to deliver. How many case interviews with a new client "start out" with a list of questions to get to know THEM better? But it always ends up being all about us. We convince ourselves it's the right move: "They asked us to talk about ourselves in the RFI" "This client doesn't know us yet" "We should really have our faces and titles up on the board so they can see who we are when we're presenting who we are in the room." "Hey clients like awards as much as anyone so let's have just a quick page on that." "I know we said we'd start with their business problem but we just need to do a quick agency intro first about all the clients we work with. It'll be short." I once was in a new business pitch where the key client had 45 minutes to be in the room. SO WE HAD TO GET TO THE GOOD STUFF BEFORE THEY LEFT for another meeting. Our Agency introductions went on for 39 minutes! Before the clients introduced themselves! Making it about THEM is making it about US. And it is still special. Every single time. #advertising #creativity #marketing
