#Earwax is daily life for the otorhinolaryngologist. The potential diagnostic value of cerumen as a new and easy to gain form of a #liquid #biopsy remains largely unexplored. Colleagues from the Leibniz-Institut für Photonische Technologien and Friedrich-Schiller-Universität Jena show now how they could help us in the future to may be analyze diseases via cerumen #diagnostics using a portfolio of vibrational approaches such as conventional #Raman #spectroscopy or surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (#SERS) together with advanced vibrational spectroscopy techniques such as coherent Raman scattering (#CRS), i.e. broadband coherent anti-Stokes Raman scattering (#CARS) or stimulated Raman scattering (#SRS), as well as optical photothermal infrared (#OPTIR) spectroscopy. Universitätsklinikum Jena is happy to be the clinical partner. Photonics in Europe CRIMSON Project Abbe School of Photonics https://lnkd.in/ez4NuDw7

New image from our studio! Electron-driven chiral dynamics🌀⚛️ Vincent Wanie, Bernard Pons, Francesca Calegari and colleagues published a paper on how chirality can be changed using UV light. They studied how the motion of electrons in chiral molecules can affect reactivity of these molecules. For this purpose they devised a new UV laser technology that produce ultrashort 2fs pump pulses! “An electric current that surrounds a chiral molecule with a clockwise directionality (blue) can, when pumped with an ultrafast UV pulse, reverse to a counterclockwise orientation (yellow) in less than 10 fs, the time scale at which most chemical reactions occur” Nature Magazine Center for Free-Electron Laser Science Hamburg Université de Bordeaux Learn more: https://lnkd.in/e2_93C58 #chirality #electrons #uv #laser #sciart #ella_maru_studio #journalcover #phdlife #phd #sciencegirl #scicomm #womaninscience #medicalartist #sciencegirl

Our HiCATT intensifier was integral to a recent study that introduced a novel method for measuring velocities in high-enthalpy hypersonic flows using Nitric-oxide ionization induced Flow Tagging and Imaging (NiiFTI). Conducted at Texas A&M University, the research focused on Mach 8.5 and Mach 10 flows. The HiCATT, paired with a Shimadzu HPV-X2 camera, enabled the capture of high-speed fluorescence data at 100 kHz, allowing for precise, single-shot velocity measurements up to 2.5 km/s in challenging, high-temperature environments.
