𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗪𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝗗𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗼𝗻 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗗𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻 𝗮𝘀 𝗽𝗲𝗿 𝗔𝗦𝗖𝗘 𝟳 The practice of applying wind loads on a building in both X and Y directions simultaneously (or in a sequential combination) is to account for the fact that wind can come from any angle and thus have components along both the X and Y axes relative to the building's orientation. This does not imply that two separate winds are blowing from orthogonal directions at the same time, but rather that a single wind direction can be resolved into two components that affect the building along those axes. In the real world, wind can approach a building from any direction. By resolving the wind load into its X and Y components, engineers can analyze how the structure will respond to those loads.
