As VM puts together its first official internship for the summer, we've thoughtfully crafted a program that allows the student to learn and grow, not just do tasks. The music industry can be a chaotic and get-it-done type environment, but it's still important to consider the growth of every employee, no matter the level. So, we've put together a program where our intern will learn alongside getting hands-on experience. We also considered what we wish we got out of our internships when we were in school. It has been a year and it was no easy feat carefully moulding 15 just-out-of-school minds into film professionals. But together with Arun Prakash, PhD , we at MIT-WPU DPIFS have done the unthinkable! In just a year, our students have already interned at #PIFF2024 , all of them have been associated with the production of an upcoming Marathi feature film in various capacities, and then these summer internships with some of the leading organizations of industry. There is a common perception that a degree in #filmmaking could come with "struggle." But it is all a matter of perception. If filmmaking were just to be thought of as art, there could be financial challenges, which however are a part and parcel of any artist's life. But as a set of skills, they are highly transferable across multiple domains and one can even land a 9-5 cozy corporate job with month-end guaranteed cheques! All one needs is to build the right attitude to take on whatever new challenge comes one's way and to keep learning outside the classrooms. At DPIFS we do just that by taking education from classrooms to set. We try to undo silos and hierarchies between directors and writers and actors and cinematographers and editors and sound designers. Because every person is of utmost importance to the making of a film and in today's day and age of rapid audiovisual content production, a knowledge of all of this can really push someone ahead and give them the financial security they are seeking. Add to this, a holistic knowledge of the world that we strive to impart, we hope to create thinking and sensitive individuals who will be able to craft universal stories on screen from their individual vantage points. Today, I would also like to thank all those who have helped these students in getting and learning through these internships. They are absolutely special people, my former students, my former colleagues and people who have come and taught and bonded with our students. I hope this peer learning and hand-holding culture makes the industry a tad bit more kind and inclusive, because without collaboration, there is no future. Thank you Sanam Buxani Gunjan H. Upward and onward from here, DPIFS, as we welcome a new cohort of students this year, full of hope, dreams, and ambition. We hope to live up to your expectations and nurture a safe and fun space for your learning and growth! A special shout out to our mentors Dhiraj Singh Sir and Abhijit Panse Sir for believing in us and supporting us in every way! And thank you to our parent organization for giving us this space. We hope to achieve bigger and larger goals in the coming days!
