National Mentoring Month in January is a time to recognize the impact of mentors and the benefits of mentoring. This past summer, the Detroit Pistons partnered with Cranbrook Horizons-Upward Bound (HUB) through our Beyond the Baseline program to expose students to career opportunities in sports. Students participated in weekly sessions at the Henry Ford Pistons Performance Center, as well as one-on-one mentoring with participating Pistons employees.

Gen Z, we're early in our careers, which means we have a world of opportunities. But we're only as good as our last success. The last big project that was a big win. The last presentation where you killed it. The last time you solved a huge problem saving everyone time. We shouldn't let ourselves lose motivation. Instead we should use our wins to move forward. I've been complacent. Patting myself on the back for a win that's months old. Not using that momentum. That's what you shouldn't do. Take what you've done and compound it. You can always do better. While still appreciating your wins and accomplishments. This means taking time to celebrate. And still looking towards the future. What was your last big win?

“Side-hustle,” “side-gig,” “moonlighting.” These phrases often carry a negative connotation in white-collar work environments. Many view maintaining a second job with suspicion, often seeing it as something done out of necessity. In today’s competitive job market, it’s time to rethink second jobs as opportunities to learn leadership skills, gain knowledge of other industries, and add depth to an individual. Modern college students are required to do this through interdisciplinary classes, but why stop learning at graduation? Hands-on experience outside of 9-5 enriches both skills and capabilities. I've gained hands-on leadership experience through my time race directing for the largest karting series in the country. Starting locally in 2021, I worked my way up to Head Race Director for the United States Pro Kart Series, leading a team of up to 15 individuals. Racing’s high-stress environment demands balancing diverse personalities and delivering well-received events. It’s a challenging but rewarding experience. As an associate banker, daily leadership opportunities are rare, making my “side-gig” experience invaluable. Let’s promote personal development and build all-star teams.

This week on "A Quick Walk with Brent Williams," I was joined by Jim Hudson, Secretary of the Arkansas Department of Finance and Administration. Jim spent a day as Executive in Residence at the Walton College, and we took a walk around campus to discuss his insights on building a strong talent pipeline, and the importance of a customer-centric approach. We also touched on the exciting opportunities available for young professionals at DFA, both for long-term careers and shorter-term rotations.

It's an exciting time here at Quinnipiac as we officially launched our first-ever comprehensive campaign over the weekend!! This historic effort will help us do more, accomplish more, and position our university to achieve more, not just for the next decade, but for the next century and beyond. 1. Our first priority builds student scholarships and financial aid, with a goal of $55 million. It’s a goal that’s about dreams realized and lives changed. 2. Our second priority focuses on launching innovative programs, with a target of $50 million. This investment will ensure that Quinnipiac remains at the vanguard of education, preparing students for careers that may not even exist yet. 3. Our third priority, with a goal of $30 million, is dedicated to advancing faculty excellence and leadership. Our faculty are the lifeblood of this institution. 4. Our fourth priority invests $25 million in capital projects. These buildings are the incubators for innovation, collaboration, and growth.
For nearly a century, Quinnipiac has stood for something greater. For the potential of our students. For the depth of our impact. For the ambitious. Now we're setting off to build our next 100 years. Join us at go.qu.edu/fta

SPARTANS AMONG US This last weekend we had 4 of our #Bedminster #team members unite for a Spartan Race! John Paciga and Roger Barlow are no stranger to these events as they always seem to be #training for the next one. Joining our seasoned #veterans in running up the mountain were Maggie Rogers and Kyle O'Neil. John always tells me that his favorite aspect of the race is that you get to #achieve something as a team. There is a #pride he takes in ensuring the #success of others, be it their first race or their fifth race. This #mindset is evident throughout our office. The #willingness to #help lift someone up, to #achieve their #potential and push past what they thought #possible. The view from the top is made even better with the right #company! There is always room on our team for those who feel the same way. Bedminster Leadership Team: Managing Director - John Kozakis, CFP Growth & Development Director - Jonathan V.
