Today, I would like to present you a very interesting concept & prototype I had the pleasure to work on at Nickel-Chrome Technology: a projection desk lamp.
Why do I want to present it to you? Not because it is nice, or because it features an interesting technology. No.
It is because it can really change the way we do problem solving or creative thinking.
Think about it for a second, you have mainly 2 tools when it comes to creativity and problem solving: pen & paper and computers. Both have their merits, of course.
Pen & paper are cheap, offers total freedom and almost zero brainpower to use it (you never think how to use your pen & paper), but it's visualization power is quite limited.
And we know that in order to create or think, we need visual support, as we iterate on our thinking and work.
Computers, on the other hand, are expensive (much more than pen & paper), offer more features but very little freedom, as you need to use a computer and its software the way they were intended to be used. Plus there are constraints, things you can't do in a certain way. And it uses a significant part of your brain to use them. But they provide high visualization support (you can integrate real components, do renderings, and more).
But we have nothing that stands in the middle. Designers start with paper, then use computers. But in fact, we uses computers too early and too much.
The projection desk lamp stands in the middle, between the classic pen & paper and the computer. It gives you advanced visualization, but with so much less constraints.
It does not require any AR/VR headset or any tech you need to wear.
You still use pen & paper.
You can project anything on your paper to support your visualization during your problem solving/creative work.
You can adjust the scale of what you project.
Therefore, you have more freedom, very little constraints, higher visualization and it would be totally affordable. We believe it could really change the way many people work at the early stages of their problem solving or creative process.
Check it out and tell us what you think.
-Would you like to have one?
-Would you use is it for?
-What is your profession?
-How much would you ready to buy one if it was commercialized today?
Thank you very much for checking it and letting us know what you think.
Also, do not hesitate to share it, all opinions matters.
Have yourself a good day.
