Our BDR team recently gathered in Chicago for some training and took time out to give back to the community. They packaged backpacks for Care For Friends, supporting those in need. We're proud of them for setting aside time to make a difference!

In the early days of your community, your top priority is reaching critical mass. You need to draw in new people who will keep your community growing and vibrant. It can feel long. ...And slow. ….And scary. …..And frustrating. And most community founders suffer through it alone. 😩 That’s why I created The Hive. So community builders could come together in a safe environment to learn, teach, vent, celebrate, question, and grow TOGETHER. 🐝 Doors are currently open for fall enrollment. Meaningful work isn't meant to be easy. Are you getting the support you need to do it well? We'd love to come alongside you.

Are you thinking about launching a community? Don't overthink! As humans, we have community in our blood. We're "social creatures". And yet, we often get lost in irrelevant details when starting a new community. And ignore important pieces. We've built three communities from scratch. And from what we have learned, these are the important pieces. 👇 What else should we add here? 🤔 ___________ Now, if you've turned your community on all sides and things are not quite right yet, it's okay to ask for help. 💛 The last "Building Community from within NOcourse" this year has opened registration, and if you are building internal communities within your organization, you might be one of the 10 people to embark on a 12-week-long learning journey: https://lnkd.in/e6fuGw6F Maybe we get to learn together. 💛 #buildingcommunityfromwithin #nocourse #communitybuilding #communityofpractice #ERG #community #learningcommunity

Let me tell you, library programs are crucial for the growth of a community. They not only provide access to a wealth of knowledge but also offer a space for people to come together and learn from one another. Whether it's a children's reading program, an adult literacy class, or a workshop on financial literacy, these programs help bridge the gap between different members of the community. They promote education, creativity, and a sense of togetherness. I've seen firsthand how a well-organized library program can breathe new life into a neighborhood by fostering a love for learning and a sense of community pride. I believe that investing in library programs is investing in the future of our society.

We failed! Yesterday, after our usual sessions and live calls in both our free and paid communities, we noticed something disheartening. Despite our dedicated efforts to create high-quality courses and resources, many people were not utilizing them. They were holding onto the material but not taking action. This realization hit us hard. We wondered if we had let our community down. Were we not motivating enough? But the truth is, no community or course can force someone to take action unless they are willing to try. We have always believed in freely sharing valuable resources with those in need. However, we learned that people often don’t value what they receive for free. It’s not about the quality of the content; it’s about their perception of its value. Now we realise why everyone chooses to charge for their knowledge and resources. When people pay, they are more likely to value and engage with the material, seeing it as an investment in themselves. Our approach has shifted. It’s not just about giving; it’s about ensuring that what we give is valued and used. Even though we'll continue to support our communities, it will not be a resource dump now. Our journey has just begun, and we are hell-bent on making it meaningful for everyone involved.

Exciting News for educators and others working directly with youth! 🌟 ThinkGive is a MA-based nonprofit that offers SEL programs that empower elementary and middle school youth (K-8) to consider other perspectives, build meaningful connections with a wide range of people, and cultivate the belief they can positively impact their own lives and the lives of others. Students who have participated in their program report strong increases in feelings of connection, belonging, self-esteem, and empowerment. Their model is to Train the Trainer, partnering with educators in schools and youth-facing organizations whose missions align and who might need a curriculum to help advance their social and emotional learning and character-building goals. Importantly, they have an SEL for Every Child Fund initiative that allows them to partner with and provide programming to schools/organizations at no cost. They are focused on finding great partner implementation sites to bring high-quality SEL to youth who otherwise might get little or none. If you are interested in learning more, please reach out and I can make the connection. Learn more about ThinkGive: https://lnkd.in/eSjavwRG

It's the final week in our #SDSBoost month 🚀, helping to boost everyone's understanding of the 4 Self Directed Support options. Anyone who needs social care or community support can choose from 4 options to arrange it. The last option lets people mix and match For example - use option 1 to choose and arrange the support which helps you get out and about, but then use option 2 to tell the council to pay and arrange your care at home help. If you'd like to learn more about how you can use different options to arrange your social care support, you can chat to the team at SDS Forth Valley - they're an independent support service offering free information and guidance. (Visit sdsforthvalley.org) To learn more about Self Directed Support, and the 4 options, visit our newly updated webpage: https://lnkd.in/ecyc3q7f

Awesome Foundation - Micro Grants The Awesome Foundation is an ever-growing worldwide community devoted to forwarding the interest of awesome in the universe. Created in the long hot summer days of 2009 in Boston, the Foundation distributes $1,000 grants, no strings attached, to projects and their creators. At each fully autonomous chapter, the money is pooled together from the coffers of ten or so self-organizing “micro-trustees” and given up front in cash, check, or gold doubloons. Each fully autonomous chapter supports awesome projects through micro-grants, usually given out monthly. These micro-grants, $1000 or the local equivalent, come out of pockets of the chapter's "trustees" and are given on a no-strings-attached basis to people and groups working on awesome projects. Every chapter interprets "awesome" for itself. As such, awesome projects include initiatives in a wide range of areas including arts, technology, community development and more. Many awesome projects are novel or experimental and evoke surprise and delight. Awesome sometimes challenges and often inspires. • Eligible Applicants: Anyone is eligible for a grant — individuals, groups and organizations alike. If you can fill out the application form, you can apply • Funding: $1,000 per project • Contact Email: contact@awesomefoundation.org Links to Additional Information: https://lnkd.in/gMKbs8Dg https://lnkd.in/etsXGtrW
