The first comprehensive review of the costs of breastfeeding in more than a decade reveals the US faces annual losses in excess of $100 billion annually. Published in the journal Health Policy and Planning, and led by a researcher at Mount Auburn Hospital, the analysis underscores the growing recognition of breastfeeding as a public health priority. The Perinatal-Neonatal Quality Improvement Network of Massachusetts launched an initiative this week that offers new tools to address the devastating effect mental health conditions can have on pregnant people, their babies and their families. Julie Mann, C.N.M., M.P.H., Director of Obstetrics at MAH, spoke with Patient Safety Beat about the initiative and the work that Mount Auburn Hospital is putting towards the bundle. “We found that each office was doing it differently,” says Mann. “We want to create a system that works for everyone. We found some holes in our screening processes, went back to PNQIN and reevaluated. Excited to announce that Aram Demirjian, MD, FACS, MPA, has been appointed as Chair of the Department of Surgery. Mount Auburn Hospital has received five-out-of-five stars from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) in its annual quality and safety assessment. Less than 10 percent of the over 4,600 hospitals that were assessed received five stars as their Overall Hospital Quality Star Rating. “A five-star rating is a testament to our team's unwavering commitment to excellence in patient care,” said Ed Huang, MD, president of MAH. “This recognition reflects the dedication, compassion, and expertise that each of our staff brings to the hospital and the community every day. Beth Israel Lahey Health has opened a new multispecialty site in Watertown. The site, known as the BILH Care Center – Watertown, is located at 480 Pleasant Street and includes Primary Care and OBGYN services. Additional specialty services and an urgent care center will be opened at the site over the next several months. Primary care and urgent care services will be provided by clinicians from BILH Primary Care, and the specialty services will be provided by clinicians from Mount Auburn Hospital. “The new care center will further BILH’s goal of providing more care in the community, closer to where people live,” said Alex Barker, Chief Operating Officer, BILH Primary Care. “We look forward to serving more patients in Watertown and the surrounding communities with the extraordinary care provided by our clinicians.” Read more⬇️ https://lnkd.in/ediip7fa

Chris Blydell and Justin Stanizzi played baseball together for Framingham State College and now, ten years later, the old teammates reconnected as both of their wives gave birth to boy-girl twins on July 21 at Mount Auburn Hospital! The girls came first in both deliveries and all four babies were born less than two hours apart. Their postpartum rooms at the hospital were just a couple of doors down. “It’s really cool to be able to relate to somebody who is going through something very similar,” Stanizzi said.
