Reaching out to my LinkedIn Medical Education Community: What are the best practices to create a Medical Education Strategy? As a member of the newly established Medical Education Centre at Univerzita 'Pavla Jozefa Šafárika' v Košiciach Medical Faculty, I am helping with coordinating the creation of 5 year strategy for the centre and its activities. Have you established a strategy for your Medical Education Department/Unit/Centre? What were the main steps you took and some challenges you faced along the way? How did you overcome them?

One of the teaching strategies that interests me is the Jigsaw teaching strategy. I have enclosed a link for this strategy. I feel that this increases the recall of information. The past week has been intensive delivering the Advocacy in medical education training (AMET ) to Medical education enthusiast in the Nigerian medical student association ( NIMSA) pre General assembly and introducing the Standing committee on medical education (SCOME) during their national general assembly. As an IFMSA AMET facilitator and SCOME regional Assistantfor Africa, I delivered sessions on Advocacy and campaigning, social accountability and improving health systems via accreditation and quality assurance, AQA. This was an opportunity to enhance the medical students’ knowledge on their crucial role in their education via advocacy. We went through the values of social accountability with orientation on how they can contribute in building a socially accountable faculty via community led initiatives and advocacy on curriculum development. Last but not the least, we discussed on the importance of AQA, the different stakeholders in accreditation and quality assurance of which the medical students themselves are among. As direct beneficiaries of medical education, medical students should be meaningfully engaged to bring out the gaps in their medical education and advocate adequately to become the 21st century medical experts who are quality advocates, professionals and medical experts . #ADVOCACY #meaningfulYouthInvolvement #SocialAccountability #AccreditationAndQualityAssurance #CapacityBuilding

My journey in medical school has been a profound lesson in humility and the acceptance of knowledge deficits. Despite my constant desire to comprehend every detail from the fundamental aspects, the reality of medical education challenges the notion that one can know everything. In the never-ending pursuit of medical knowledge, the anxiety stemming from the unknown can be daunting. There are instances where a professor introduces a super-specific topic, catching students off guard. It may be the first encounter with the subject, or despite hours of study, gaps in understanding persist. The pressure to know everything can be overwhelming. However, it is crucial to recognize that it is okay not to have exhaustive knowledge on every topic. Inner expectations often contribute to anxiety, creating an unrealistic demand for perfection. This phenomenon extends beyond medical education, permeating various aspects of our lives, from our professions to relationships and self-awareness. Acknowledging our human limitations is a crucial step in alleviating this self-imposed pressure. Understanding that perfection is unattainable due to the complexity of life and the vastness of knowledge helps in fostering self-compassion. As Socrates wisely stated, "All I know is that I know nothing." The silver lining lies in the acceptance of perpetual learning. Embracing the idea that there is always more to learn allows for a healthier approach to knowledge acquisition. This mindset shift involves acknowledging the vastness of information and adopting a step-by-step learning process. In the context of medical education, where the depth of knowledge is immense and ever-expanding, this approach becomes not only a coping mechanism but a fundamental aspect of professional growth. 👩🏫 Reflections as a Medical Educationist: Navigating Challenges and Creating Change 🌟 As I look back over the years as a medical educationist, I've encountered my fair share of challenges, from limited resources to skepticism about curricular development and faculty training. But I've also learned valuable lessons along the way that I'd like to share. Maximizing Potential with Limited Resources: When resources are scarce, creativity and determination become your allies. I've found innovative ways to achieve educational goals without breaking the bank. Bringing Visible Change Over Time: Change often takes time, and patience is key. I've learned to persistently advocate for improvements and work diligently to make them a reality, even if progress seems slow. Handling Negative Criticism with Positivity: Criticism is part of the journey. I've embraced constructive feedback, patiently borne negativity, and responded positively by using it as a catalyst for growth. Acquiring Administrative Support: Building support from the administrative team can be challenging but crucial.
