Another timely discussion about work EACH is leading which ought to be spread and delivered at scale.
We loved hosting Federal Health Minister Mark Butler MP and Member for Aston Mary Doyle MP at our Burwood Highway site in Ferntree Gully last week to talk through the challenges and opportunities of community-based healthcare – including the imminent loss of funding to Reconnexion, our specialist benzodiazepine dependency and withdrawal support service. This week, we’ll be welcoming Dr Michelle Ananda-Rajah MP to our Patterson St site in Ringwood East to learn more about our customers’ needs, and especially our Endometriosis and Pelvic Pain Clinic. With all of the healthtech and health equity innovations here's a stark reminder that good policy in blue and red states can often get us to where we need to be, faster. If you have a child it's better to live in NJ, IL, and Tennesee, the states with mandatory pediatric readiness in emergency rooms.

Camden Coalition has a bit of a cult-like status within complex care models, and the work there is ground-breaking, mission-oriented and thoughtful. Given my admiration for them, the studies showing their lack of demonstrable results point to a simple fact: Care coordination alone, even when implemented well, is insufficient to reduce hospitalizations for this [really, any] complex population of high-need patients. Primary care has proven its value. I am more concerned that a lot of the innovative, Specialty-focused models seem to rely on navigation, coordination and peer supports - without learning the lessons that are tried and true about complex populations. The reality is that these populations actually need a place to go when their needs escalate, a primary care provider to help them and real specialist access/integration for their needs. Let's hope that the next wave of these innovative companies learn these old lessons - these populations deserve it. https://lnkd.in/ecsjcbY2

Today, the AAMC Center for Health Justice celebrates two years! In that time, the Center has: - Published articles in Milbank Memorial Fund Quarterly, JAMA Network Open, Frontiers in Public Health, and American Journal of Public Health; - Hosted 500 attendees at our Maternal Health Equity Workshop, which brought together clinical care, research, public health, and tech to explore the potential for AI to build the qualitative data infrastructure needed to understand and address maternal health inequities; - Added new polling briefs to their research arsenal: one on civil engagement and one on the attitudes of Gen Z towards health care access, reproductive rights, and other vital conditions for health; - And so much more you can learn about here: https://lnkd.in/gCFvq2Au If you do not already, be sure to give them a follow here on LinkedIn, Twitter (@AAMCjustice) and join the conversation as we continue to advance health equity and improve the health of patients, families, and communities.
