Yesterday, Bruce Dechert retired from Mountainside as our beloved Director of Family Wellness. If you were fortunate enough to meet Bruce, you likely felt his warm and caring presence when he walked into the room. He has the incredible ability to meet you wherever you are in life and simply listen at times you need it most. Bruce entered the treatment field at a young age and was passionate about working with individuals, families, and caregivers who were impacted by addiction and co-occurring conditions. He recognized that connecting with others was more about the human, heartfelt connection rather than theory. He earned the nickname "The Tear Whisperer" at Mountainside because of the raw and emotional yet transformative conversations that happened in his office. People often went home with dried tears on their faces and used tissues in their pockets but a sense of hope as well.  "Hearing people say, “I believe in myself again,” has allowed me to stay in this work and find meaning and hope," says Bruce. "Having witnessed people letting go of judgment of self or a loved one has reminded me that change is possible." During his time at Mountainside, Bruce touched countless lives, expanded our family services, and brought the parallel healing process to the clients' and families' experience. We wish Bruce luck on this next step in his journey. Mountainside will miss you!
