Blaze Trails are a parent and baby walking community, who help new parents connect with the outdoors and with each other. There are more than 50 parent and baby walking groups around the country who meet up to walk, make friends and enjoy the countryside. Walking in groups is a wonderful activity for mental health and to alleviate loneliness. This is something many experience but few will feel comfortable ever sharing, (let alone to their employer). Combating Loneliness for Homebound Individuals Loneliness can have a profound impact on the mental and physical health of homebound individuals. Regular Check-Ins: Make it a point to call, video chat, or visit regularly. Consistent interaction can make a world of difference. 2. Virtual Socializing: Help set up video calls with family and friends. Virtual games or group chats can also provide a sense of community. 3. Engaging Activities: Encourage hobbies like reading, puzzles, or crafts. Providing materials and joining in can enhance the experience. 4. Outdoor Time: If possible, assist with safe outdoor activities like a walk in the garden or sitting on the porch. Fresh air and nature can boost mood. 5. Community Resources: Connect them with local senior centers, volunteer groups, or religious organizations that offer companionship programs. 6. Pet Therapy: If they love animals, consider pet visits or even adopting a pet. Animals provide great companionship and comfort. 7. Mental Health Support: Encourage professional help if needed. Therapists or support groups can provide valuable coping strategies. 8. Meal Sharing: Share a meal together, either virtually or in person. Mealtime can be a wonderful opportunity for connection and conversation. 9. Letters and Cards: Send letters, cards, or small gifts. A year ago today, I was discharged from the hospital. My mom picked me up at the front doors of St. Joe (with my favorite stuffed animal, no less! 😄) and I was on my way home after going through what felt like hell. My therapist asked me today, "Do you remember what you were thinking?" I answered, "What now? What happens now?" My brain was still booting up and I was exhausted like I've never been before. I knew I couldn't go back to the way things were, but I had no idea what life would or should look like now. 🌈 A year later, I entered my therapist's office today and see my brochure for The Semi-Colon Society - Support Group for Recovery after Crisis in the waiting room (which was so cool, y'all!) 🌈 A year later, I'm a certified life coach with the goal of helping others reinvent themselves and have better emotional relationships with themselves - a purpose and passion that fell into my lap! 🌈 A year later, I've been in some incredible spaces and met incredible people that have helped me grow and continue in my recovery journey. 🌈 A year later, I have more tools to help keep me from spiraling as much. 🌈 A year later, I believe and feel the love others have poured into me, from coworkers to friends and family to even random people on social media! 😄 🌈 A year later, I feel more at peace and hopeful of what is to come and drawing strength from the past painful experiences to continue pushing me forward. I wish I had a picture of myself when I got into the car last year to put next to what I look like today because I feel I'd be unrecognizable 😄 Instead - help me celebrate today by sharing my excitement from seeing the culmination of my year long journey manifest in the therapy office!
