Career Coach @ Honors Carolina | Technologist | Builder I Transition from Building Product and Company to Empowering People for Success
I believe that building core skills in technology requires a combination of learning and practice. Great practices are those that are interesting, challenging, and competitive. Simply sitting in front of a screen and stepping through piles of code may not do much good. What type of events, do you think, are great ways to practice skills? Would you prefer a team hackathon where a group collaborates to build a product, or a competition where peers measure skills against each other? Share your favorite event in the comments below. Seeking suggestions from my LinkedIn network on high school and college level events. Participation would be at North Carolina state, or at the national and international scale. Some examples: Congressional App Challenge Regional Science Fairs ISEF ACM ICPC Top Coder Name your favorite in comment.

Here's one reason to give your child, classroom, or educators the STEM advantage: Opening Doors to the Future. STEM subjects like Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math are like keys that unlock so many opportunities for your child's future. By studying these subjects, they learn to think critically, solve problems, and come up with creative ideas. This is super important because it helps them become the innovators and inventors of tomorrow, making cool new discoveries and technologies that can change the world for the better. As an educator it is my duty to excite others about these subjects. That is why I offer STEMulating activities and workshops for both students and fellow educators. Think FIRST is just about building robots? Think again. 💡 We feel like our newest initiative in California was another proof point. We're thrilled to share the success of our inaugural FIRST For All Fellowship - a program that's cultivating so much more than technical skills. ➔ In its very first year, this fellowship challenged high school students to become champions of diversity and inclusion in STEM - on their teams and their community. We were blown away by how wholeheartedly our students embraced this new opportunity, diving deep into topics like unconscious bias and inclusive leadership. Their enthusiasm and dedication showed us that FIRST participants are ready and eager to tackle the important issues beyond the robot field. ⚡️ This fellowship is a humble reminder that in FIRST, we're not just engineering machines; we're nurturing tomorrow's changemakers. Curious to see how our students rose to the challenge? Check out our blog post to learn more about this exciting new program and its impact. ⭐️ https://lnkd.in/gEGydqiw Because in FIRST, we're 100% more than robots – we're building a more inclusive future, one student at a time. #FIRSTinCA #omgrobots #morethanrobots #STEM #womeninstem #girlinstem #FIRSTisforeveryone #STEMisforeveryone #STEM

Enabling impactful STEM Education at scale | Founder @STEMonsters Education | Education Advisor, Consultant, Board Member | Research Scientist turned Educationist | Mentor | IIT Delhi | NSRCEL, IIMB
How does a student’s environment shape their thinking skills? This is a topic I have been independently researching for quite some time. I actively gather insights on this at the numerous STEM events and challenges I attend/ judge, particularly at well-established schools across the country. However, when Soujanya Jandhyala invited me to judge the Build Program Showcase Event by Enabling Leadership Global, it got me excited for a different reason - the students presenting their projects came from less privileged backgrounds, unlike those from IB/IGCSE schools. I was keen to witness their creativity and problem-solving skills, to get a deeper insight into the impact of environment at school and at home on the thinking skills. These students, armed with LEGO bricks, focused on tackling real-world issues they encounter daily. From poor network on long bridges to the need for having washrooms on the ground floor for improved accessibility and pet shelters at the railway stations, what struck me was the #empathy in all their #solutions. For a society to make true progress, we need to nurture #empatheticdesign amongst students. We already know that #STEM #education can empower students to think critically and innovate, no matter their circumstances. But it is the empathy complemented by competency and opportunities that can truly propel any country towards becoming a knowledge powerhouse in the world. 2023 - Reflecting on a Transformative Year at Inventure Academy At the end of 2023, through my fifth year as Manager of Wider World Programs at Inventure Academy, I can't help but look back at how this year has been a convergence of efforts towards a transformative endeavor—the development of our K-12 Community Outreach Curriculum. This initiative, rooted in the essence of awareness, kindness and empathy, has been a pivotal step toward nurturing action, service, compassion and change-making in the minds of our young learners. Challenges were not scarce; each day demanded adaptability and swift iterations. Gratefully, Inventure Academy's Core Purpose guided us through these moments, ensuring that while we pivoted, our objectives remained steadfast. Amidst the chaos, we never lost sight of the profound meaning behind our work. One standout challenge was recognizing the need for structured creativity within our education framework. Our learners thrive in routines that facilitate creative exploration. Additionally, as technology surged, we found a decline in essential interpersonal skills. To bridge this gap, we innovated—a physical journal that became a bridge between tech-based documentation and the development of crucial communication and expression skills. The impact of our accomplishments has extended beyond individual milestones. Witnessing our learners embrace emotional intelligence and social responsibility fuels my vision of solving global challenges. Moreover, it has reinvigorated our educators, solidifying the purpose of education at Inventure Academy, and making their contributions even more meaningful. Personally and professionally, this year has been a lesson in the value of time and patience. The recognition that time governs our endeavors has been profound. It's not merely about meeting deadlines, but appreciating the right moments, and understanding their significance. This year has been a milestone in our journey, but the path ahead is filled with opportunities to further amplify our impact and empower our learners to become compassionate leaders of tomorrow. https://lnkd.in/gqP3KkmZ
