Check out this article about the large number of races in 2023 that went uncontested. The The Black Futures Lab conducted the largest survey of Black people in American history through our Black Census Project, reaching 211,000 people. In that survey we found that Black people trusted the government the least out of all institutions we asked them about. It is likely because time and time again, we are let down by elected officials who run our government. This article illuminates why it is so important to have more people run who will be champions for the Black community. We want an economy that works for us, safe communities and a bright future for our children. That means we need people to run who share our values and will fight for them and win.
More groups are focusing on downballot recruitment, but there's so much more to do. We're committed to growing the pipeline of Dems running to #ContestEveryRace. 🌊

3moThe reality is that even having someone just to fill the slot on the ballot who doesn't intend to do any work to actually get elected is still important. Not only does a full ballot help people begin to believe again that their vote matters, but it forces previously unopposed candidates to spend money which brings them more to the attention of voters who start to make a more educated vote.
