Shaping the Future of Airline IT: Insights from the World Aviation Festival
At this year’s World Aviation Festival in Amsterdam, I had the pleasure of joining an inspiring panel discussion on the theme: “Empowering CIOs: Leveraging Technological Advances to Elevate Traveler Experiences by 2030”. Together with industry experts like Aart Slagt (KLM), Isabelle Droll (TUI), Alex Sbragia (Amadeus), and Dee Waddell (IBM), we explored how emerging technologies, such as Generative AI, quantum computing, and digital twins, are redefining the role of IT in aviation. These innovations bring exciting possibilities, but they also introduce new challenges.
We discussed how airline CIOs can navigate this complex landscape:
· Meeting rising customer expectations while managing outdated legacy systems
· Adapting to increasing regulatory requirements without compromising agility
· Understanding which technological trends will shape the future of aviation, including the potential of the immersive internet to transform the travel experience
In our keynote beforehand, Oliver Schmitt and I, showcased our successful Lufthansa Group Digital Hangar transformation, transforming from “Legacy IT to customer-centric technology”. Key success factors were:
· Enhancing the digital customer experience and delivering on business needs
· Creating an efficient digital operating model
· Maintaining a stable IT infrastructure
The discussions at the festival reaffirmed that innovation, adaptability, and collaboration are key to driving the next generation of air travel. I’m grateful for the opportunity to engage with such visionary leaders and for the chance to contribute to shaping the future of our industry.
On top of all that, yesterday afternoon, the Lufthansa app was awarded the prize for best airline app at the World Aviation Festival! 🏆
I am very proud and grateful that we have won this prize. It validates the path we have taken. Many thanks to everyone who has made this success happen!
