Australian consulting firms are spending big on AI but is it harming creativity and originality? Deloitte, KPMG, PwC, EY, McKinsey & Company, Boston Consulting Group (BCG) and co are investing heavily on GenAI tools... to boost staff productivity ⏰ prep sales proposals 💰 and even replace research analysts 📊 At least in the near term, firms are likely to use AI to “augment” human consultants, rather than replace them. But research by Tapani Rinta-Kahila of The University of Queensland has shown that "excessive reliance" on automation technologies such as GenAI can lead to the "erosion of professional expertise" ⬇️ In the long run, could GenAI effect the knowledge and reputation of consultancy firms? #InspiredKnowledge

This week, Deloitte is rolling out a new AI chatbot called PairD to assist their client-facing consultants and accountants with the more monotonous tasks on their to-do lists. Tasks like digging out case studies for a proposal and creating summary slides. They hope it will boost productivity - and it almost certainly will. They aren't the only firm doing this. Late last year, McKinsey & Company launched Lilli, an AI tool to assist their team when trawling through their massive internal knowledge base for relevant insights. How will #AI disrupt management consulting and professional services more widely? I sat with my co-founder Tom Hewitson at General Purpose AI Training to talk through these innovations.

Boardroom #executives have mixed views on the ideal pace of AI adoption and current state of readiness, according to a #Deloitte Global report published Tuesday. Despite a lack of consensus, leaders agree that there’s currently a lack of board-level AI insight. Just 2% of boards said they were highly knowledgeable and experienced in AI, the survey of 468 board members and #C-suite executives found. More than half say their organization is AI-ready, while 41% disagree. Around half of respondents said they want the pace of adoption to accelerate, while a similar proportion expressed concern or dissatisfaction with the amount of time spent addressing #AI. According to @Accenture’s estimates, 90% of companies are exploring AI or generative AI capabilities. However, Ashraf says fewer than a third of those firms are taking proper steps to set themselves up for success, such as establishing an AI center of excellence or developing use cases in a structured way. He also said that fewer than 20% of companies are getting close to the goals established for AI investments. To maximize a company's chances of seeing ROI when it comes to AI, Ashraf suggested incorporating five steps. #AI #ROI #genAI #CFO #finance #technology #value #success #leadership

Industry leaders are at a crossroads, from internal financial concerns to existential threats posed by AI advancements; challenges in generative AI specifically are as varied as they are complex. How enterprises navigate these ever-changing seas will shape their future and redefine their increasingly expansive role in a business landscape evolving beyond traditional models. Criticism of core competencies among industry-leading firms like McKinsey is intensifying. There is worry that consultants lack the substantial go-to-market and profit-and-loss experience needed in today’s volatile markets. A perceived deficiency in real-world experience and a results-driven approach has created some doubt when it comes to their value proposition. In addition, traditional consulting models face challenges with AI technologies powered by advancements like Gen AI (GPT-4). These advancements offer analytical and strategic planning services with incredible speed, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness. This creates the question, are these large consulting firms necessary or relevant? From massive and sudden change comes an opportunity: generative AI consulting. Bernard Marr, a Forbes contributor, discusses Accenture's industry-leading $3 billion investment in generative AI, highlighting its strong financial performance and the sector's potential profitability. With revenue surpassing $600 million in a single quarter and a projected annual income of up to $2.4 billion, Accenture is the industry standard as of today. Other consulting firms like EY and KPMG are not far behind. They are creating niches in generative AI consulting. EY focuses on using generative AI as a transformative accelerator, while KPMG supports clients through use case prioritization and governance policy establishment. #GenAI #Consulting #Forbes Gen AI Revolution Is Reshaping The Future Of Traditional Consulting https://lnkd.in/dtVc6Rcx

If everyone in consulting, all over the board, can double their production today with some help from AI. From associates to senior partners. From graphic designers to management consultants. In this 2 minute article i argue that AI has changed the competitive landscape completely. And that the good old days where all might were in numbers are gone.
