A Chance Encounter on a Flight: Lessons for Field Service Biomedical Engineers On a recent flight from Addis Ababa to Mumbai, I met a lovely lady who sat next to me in seat 37C. I had checked in online to ensure I got my preferred window seat, 37A. However, my companion was adamant that her seat, 37C, was a window seat. Despite explanations from both me and the air hostess, she remained skeptical until I showed her the seat map from the airline's app on my phone and the label on the baggage compartment. Her conviction stemmed from her experience as a frequent flyer, where she had always requested and received a window seat at the check-in counter. Her assumption was rooted in past successes, but it didn't account for the possibility of a different seating arrangement on this particular flight. This encounter taught me two valuable lessons that are particularly relevant in my work as a Field Service Biomedical Engineer: 1. Don't assume; verify: When troubleshooting medical equipment, assumptions can lead to misdiagnoses or incorrect repairs. Verifying information through thorough testing, documentation review, and manufacturer guidance is crucial to ensure accurate and efficient repairs. 2. Proactivity yields results: Proactivity is essential in Field Service Biomedical Engineering, where staying ahead of equipment failures and maintenance needs can prevent downtime and ensure patient care. By taking the initiative to schedule preventive maintenance, monitor equipment performance, and engage with clinicians, I can anticipate and address potential issues before they arise. For example, proactively checking and replacing worn-out parts on an MRI can prevent a critical failure during a patient's scan. These lessons serve as a reminder to remain vigilant, verify information, and take control of my work as a Field Service Biomedical Engineer. By doing so, I can ensure that medical equipment is safe, functional, and reliable, ultimately supporting optimal patient care and hospital operations.

AI Medical Engineer/ Clinical Engineer. Ionizing Radiations Physicist/ Innovative medical Devices/ all about Medical Imaging and Artificial Intelligence
It is very important to test Medical equipment regularly and periodically in order to ensure that a device is reliable and safe to use on patients whenever needed. In addition, Medical device testing has to be done after any major corrective maintenance on a piece of medical equipment. A Hospital biomedical engineer/ technician needs to plan maintenance in accordance with industry standards, manufacture recommendations, and predictive maintenance methodology. However, implementation of all such planning is only possible only if you have a competent technical team on board and the required test equipment. #electrical_safety_tests #Rigel_medical #Medical_equipement

AI Medical Engineer/ Clinical Engineer. Ionizing Radiations Physicist/ Innovative medical Devices/ all about Medical Imaging and Artificial Intelligence
🔺⚠️Biomedical engineers must make rapid decisions to troubleshoot equipment malfunctions or address unexpected issues during medical procedures. This requires the ability to analyze situations quickly and choose the most appropriate course of action. Maintaining Equipment: In emergency situations or operating rooms, biomedical engineers may need to perform maintenance or repairs on medical devices under time constraints. They must work efficiently to ensure that equipment is functioning properly to support patient care. Effective Communication: Clear #communication is essential when working under pressure. Biomedical engineers must effectively convey information to medical staff regarding equipment status, troubleshooting steps, and any potential risks or limitations. Remaining Calm: Remaining calm under pressure is crucial to making sound decisions and performing tasks accurately. Biomedical engineers must manage stress effectively to maintain focus and ensure the safety of patients and medical personnel. Collaboration: In emergency situations or operating rooms, biomedical engineers often collaborate closely with other healthcare professionals. They must be able to work as part of a team, coordinating efforts to address challenges and resolve issues efficiently. #biomedicalengineering #biomedicalengineer #medicalEquipment #medicaldevices

Two Common terms used in biomedical profession are AMC and CMC. As a biomedical engineer, I often deal with the maintenance and repair of medical equipment. Medical equipment is essential for providing quality patient care, but it can also be costly and complex to maintain. That's why many healthcare facilities and equipment manufacturers use AMC and CMC contracts to ensure the proper functioning and longevity of medical equipment. 🏥 AMC stands for Annual Maintenance Contract. It is a type of agreement that covers the basic services on the products, such as regular check-ups and calibration. AMC contracts offer fixed and predictable costs for maintenance and repairs, as well as the assurance that the equipment will be serviced by qualified professionals. 💯 CMC stands for Comprehensive Maintenance Contract. It is a type of agreement that covers everything from regular parts to labor or techs required for the maintenance of the products. CMC contracts offer the additional benefit of providing free replacement of faulty parts or techs, as well as the assurance that the equipment will be serviced by qualified professionals. 🙌 Both AMC and CMC contracts have their advantages and disadvantages, depending on the type and usage of the equipment, the budget and preferences of the healthcare facility, and the terms and conditions of the contract. Some of the factors to consider when choosing between AMC and CMC contracts are: 🤔 - The cost of the contract versus the cost of the equipment 💰 - The frequency and intensity of the usage of the equipment ⏱️ - The availability and reliability of the service provider 📞 - The warranty period and exclusions of the equipment 🛡️ - The risk of equipment malfunction and its impact on patient care 😷 As a biomedical engineer, I have to weigh these factors and make informed decisions about the best maintenance contract for the medical equipment. I also have to communicate and coordinate with the equipment manufacturers, service providers, and healthcare staff to ensure the smooth and safe operation of the equipment. 🗣️ I hope this post was helpful and informative for anyone interested in biomedical engineering and medical equipment maintenance. If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to share them below. Thank you for reading! 😊 #biomedicalengineering #medicalequipment #maintenancecontract #AMC #CMC #healthcare #engineering
