Circular manufacturing needs design, materials and making to come together and change the way things are made. Batch.Works brings this ideal world a little bit closer, making ‘circular’ possible for every kind of business. Their design consultancy and micro factories develop and produce thousands of key parts with recycled, 3D-printed polymer. From medicine bottles to machinery, they’ve opened up manufacturing to let products and components be rethought, redesigned and reused. In short, they make things better. Our recent partnership gave them the look, feel, and language to share their incredible expertise and show that circularity really is in everybody’s reach. We helped them highlight the small parts that make up larger systems, and how mammoth change starts in the detail. https://lnkd.in/e5CkwKjE Got a big idea you want to share with the world? September's issue of Packaging Technology Today features “The future of film design: modeling technology and material advancements support circular packaging solutions,” written by Nova's Guillermo Pardo. Bill shares how the industry is making the most out of plastic's capabilities to align with society's push for a circular economy. Key components such as designing for a circular future, improving the existing design process, collaborating with the value chain, and researching new possibilities are all a part of the equation. NOVA continues to contribute through material advances and new technology like the BONFIRE® Film Development Platform. Read more details here: https://hubs.li/Q02P5h1z0

Reusable Packaging Enthusiast - Design for Sustainability - Doctoral Researcher at Brunel University
An frightfully thrilling week for reuse. A couple of fanstatic webinars outlining the future of reuse systems by both UK Plastics Pact Refill Coalition and RECOUP. But, to sumarise yesterdays discussion: 🧗♂️ Emma Kastrisianaki-Guyton from Pragmatic outlined the three main constraints impeding the upscaling of reuse systems: consumer engagment, economic viability and environmental viability. Identifying QR codes, NFC's and RFID's as the most viable technologies for digital reuse systems, aiding activities within consumer engagement and value chain automation. Pragmatic has developed a Flexible Integrated Chip, providing a lower carbon footprint, lower cost and improved flexibility when compared to typical NFC tags. When applied within reuse, the chips allow for traceability, improves asset identification, and opens the door to sustained consumer engagement. ✏ Irina Ankudinova from RECOUP highlighted some key findings from Reusability by Design. Identifying 12 key areas to consider when designing reuse systems. From material choice - emphasising the importance of container recyclability, durability and hygiene, through to traceability - including application and purpose for incorperating technologies. (Be sure to give it a read: https://lnkd.in/e7cVTAhK) 🧐 Thomas Webb from Grantham Centre for Sustainable Futures University of Sheffield continued the conversation, delving into consumer willingness to engage with digital reuse systems. Measuring the influence of consumer knowledge on consumer adoption. Interestingly, findings suggest providing consumers with information about the systems's potential environmental impact presents no significant difference for consumer willingness to engage with digital reuse systems. Instead, system designers should focus on convenience, availability and accessibility. (Check this paper out too: https://lnkd.in/eNtU8SnP) 👨🎓 Overall, it was great to hear about the TRACE project, and to understand the potential for track and trace technologies along the entire value chain - including the impact on consumer perception, product recyclability, and sorting at the EOL. A brillant project. Really looking forward to the future outcomes, including Reusability by Design 2024! #technology #future #reuse #packaging #digital #systems #circulareconomy #sustainability
