President of the Chartered Institution of Highways & Transportation (CIHT) and Mott MacDonald Professor of Future Mobility at UWE Bristol
Three days to go! Around 200 people are booked up to join us for the 18th PTRC Fireside Chat this Thursday to discuss Triple Access Planning. Later this month we will be releasing the 'Triple Access Planning for Uncertain Futures - Handbook for Practitioners'. Instead of transport planning in the paradigm of predict and provide, we bring you Triple Access Planning in the paradigm of decide and provide. After nearly three years of a pan-European project looking into this, our work is nearly done. There are already innovators out there pioneering TAP in their transport plans and and strategies. It feels like a diffusion of innovation is underway. TAP doesn't promise to make the planner's job easier necessarily but it does offer an approach that is more fit for purpose for the times we are now in. It resonates strongly with a world that needs to decarbonise, which is going deeper into the digital age, and which feels decidedly uncertain. With the Chairman of the Transport Planning Society Ben Plowden in the chair, the Panel for this Fireside Chat is made up of Rose McArthur, Annette Smith, Stephen Cragg, Deborah Paton and myself. It promises to be a fascinating and timely conversation - I do hope you will consider joining us. It takes place from 12.30pm to 2.00pm (GMT) on 7 March and you can book your free place to attend here: https://lnkd.in/enuQacrw #tripleaccessplanning #transportplanning

Dr. Dagg's session focuses on demonstrating how nonprofits, ISPs, governments and organizations can leverage RENs' expertise to advance digital equity and implement transformational infrastructure projects. At Merit Network, we're putting this into practice by upgrading our 4,000+ miles of fiber optic infrastructure in Michigan. This project exemplifies how RENs contribute to state-wide digital advancement. Equity has been a major topic at recent TRB Annual Meetings, and it was especially exciting to see it talked about in more quantitative terms at the 2024 Annual Meeting. There was a strong emphasis on defining, measuring, and tracking the benefits and burdens of transportation decisions on the people they impact. ⚖️ Equity should be measured. ⚖️ The Equity in Transportation Committee discussed assigning performance measures to equity, with the U.S. Department of Transportation detailing steps and tools, such as the Intersections Transportation Data + Equity Hub 1.0 and TRB's equity recommendations for federal grant programs. Upcoming guidance from USDOT aims to help state DOTs and communities quantify progress toward equity goals. 📊 While measuring equity is crucial for consistency and accountability, it was acknowledged that equity goes beyond numbers and is fundamentally about people. A workshop example from the Minnesota Department of Transportation illustrated the need to go beyond data and understand the human stories behind transportation equity issues. 🤝 #Transportation #Equity #Inclusivity #MeasuringEquity #Community
