Is empathy socially transmittable? Research suggests: yes, it is. A very interesting study sheds more light on how people develop empathy, and role our surrounding place. Key aspects: 1. Adults have the capacity to enhance or diminish their empathetic responses through observational learning. 2. Variations in empathy were associated with shifts in brain activity within the anterior insula, a critical region for processing empathy, emphasizing the neural foundation of empathy's social transmission. 3. The research emphasizes the significance of creating environments that nurture empathy, proposing that empathy can be nurtured and can contribute to successful teamwork and interactions with clients. See P4A`s post for more on how our empathy level changes, and the downsides.
IS EMPATHY SOCIALLY TRANSMITTABLE? AND WHAT DOES THAT MEAN? There is new research on the social transmission of empathy. Why is social cooperation hardwired into our brains? It’s simple—our brains crave connection! Neuroscientists, psychologists, and evolutionists all agree: we're born with a natural need for social cooperation. It’s not just a “nice-to-have”—it’s essential. When we connect with others, our brains light up, literally releasing dopamine, which makes us happier, healthier, and more productive. Meaningful relationships = better brain development. It’s one of the things that makes us truly human. In fact, a 2020 study in Nature Communications shows that these social interactions reinforce cooperative behavior. And as Dr. Lisa Feldman Barrett explains in her book, our brains are shaped by the environments and social interactions we experience. So, if you’re looking to thrive, make social cooperation a priority. Your brain—and your happiness—will thank you! #YouAreUnique #SelfAwareness #TeamworkWins Image made by DALL-E

As neurodivergent people, we have unique strengths, different ways of processing information, and different ways of working to the majority of people. And these differences shape our business journeys in various ways. We might face challenges in business such as demand avoidance, varying energy levels, hyperactivity, prioritisation, emotional regulation, or balancing a need for both novelty and structure. Without systems that work for our unique brains, we might experience burnout, fall into people-pleasing habits or get stuck in overwhelm or paralysis. That's why we’re starting a conversation about how to give ourselves what we need in business. In our October Roundtable, we’ll be joined by neurodiversity and innovation specialist, Matthew Bellringer and neuroinclusion specialist and content creator, Heledd Straker. Together we’ll explore: 👉 How do we give ourselves the grace and space to unlearn systems and ways of working that don’t work for us? 👉 How can we figure out how our brain works with different business tasks? 👉 How can we give ourselves what we need? 🗓 DATE: Thursday 24th October 2024 ⏰ TIME: 18:00 BST 📍PLACE: Online, via Zoom 💰 Cost: FREE for Joyfully Different Community Members or £5 to drop in. If you can’t attend live, we got you! A recording of the event will be made available to everyone who registers as well as our community members. Book your place: https://bit.ly/3X1V1Tc As always, if you have any questions, drop us a DM – it’s always a joy to hear from you. #Neurodiversity #Neurodivergent #Neurodivergence #NeurodivergentBusiness #NeurodivergentBusinessOwner

27 ‘Strange’ Things You Do Because You’re a Highly Sensitive Person About 30 percent of the population are HSPs, or “highly sensitive people,” so either you know one or you are one yourself. Yet being a highly sensitive person is a perfectly normal, healthy trait. In fact, many researchers, such as Dr. Aron, consider it to be an evolutionary advantage, given how easily sensitive people notice details that others miss. If you’re a highly sensitive person, you were born with a nervous system that processes all information deeply. The “cost” of this deep processing is that sensitive people become overstimulated easily. So, here are 27 things that HSPs do because of their sensitivity (particularly #11 hits me very hard) so that we can recognize our #HSP counterparts at the office: https://lnkd.in/gD_E2bCT #diversityandinclusion #dei #highlysensitive

I help leaders build strategic partnerships that drive business growth | Mentor, Author, Speaker, Gardener | Award Winning Networker & Event Producer
What if our struggles could easily be lessened and solved by simply sharing our problems with a circle of compassionate associates? We spend so much time alone when running a business. Too much time, in fact. And studies show being disconnected is bad for mental and physical health (likened to smoking 15 cigarettes a day). I believe self sufficiency is the biggest lie. And I don't say this lightly. I am one of the most independent and self sufficient people you'll meet. I just make it a habit to meet frequently with brilliant people. It never fails that when I meet with someone we create bigger results. For example this week, I was able to help one of my associates book 2, possibly 3 speaking gigs. Since we're both looking for the same type of events, we agreed to share opps along the way. Really in uncertain times like now, I believe the best and only thing we need to do is come together, share our challenges, and help one another. I am 100% certain that being able to collaborate is the skill that will keep businesses afloat. I want to ensure that everyone in my network has people they can turn to for support. So I'm building a community of compassionate transformational collaborators. And if you'd like to join us, reach out and let's have a beautiful interactive problem-solving chat.
