A month after Haute Couture Week, Paris is getting ready to host another event that will have the world focused on the city of lights. The 2024 Olympic Games will host more than 10,000 athletes from all over the world, competing in 32 different sports across more than 300 events. After the 2021 Tokyo Olympics, which took place in the shadow of the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2024 Paris Olympic Games come as a breath of fresh air. After years of meticulous planning, organizing, and prepping the capital of France for this major sports event, the Olympic Games are finally around the corner. Are OMEGA SA are currently the winning the sponsorship race at the Paris 2024 Olympics? As both a watch, and a sports fan, I am enjoying and interested at seeing professional athletes competing (and winning) in luxury watches. Athletes not wearing the usual Garmin, WHOOP, COROS, etc. associated with athletes and sports, but in some cases wearing watches well in excess of £10k. As well as being the official timekeeper, Omega has multiple Ambassadors competing in the games. And the alignment is there; precision, performance, and consistent development. Their winning athletes are bound to the clothing brands to each country, such as Team GB and adidas, but Omega has the ability to sponsor the most high profile athletes, regardless of the country they represent. The Olympic Games may have come to an end, but there is one competition that may have more golden medallists, and it doesn't even require being an athlete. Some companies won this year’s Olympics by being present in Paris, which opened the door to international promotion of their products and services. Portugal marked its presence during the Games with a strong representation of the national brands from different sectors. Portuguese CaetanoBus supported transport and mobility during the Olympics with the fleet of 12 hydrogen buses and electric vehicles (Accessible People Movers), which will also be used during the Paralympic Games this year. Four out of every five kayaks present in Paris were manufactured by the Portuguese company Nelo. Furthermore, Portugal provided the volunteers from the National Federation of Civil Protection with examination gloves made by Raclac S.A. In terms of clothing, Portugal selected the Portuguese brand DECENIO to be responsible for the design and production of the national Team's costumes. Olympic fever is going to dominate the USA for the next decade if Salt Lake City clinches the 2034 Winter Olympic bid. With LA 2028 looming large after Paris 2024 takes it bows next month, I'm predicting a significant uptick in sport-focused licensing for the next 10 years. During the last US Olympics, in Salt Lake City, there were $4.8 billion in sales recorded. This was an economic boom for Utah, increasing skiing and snowboarding revenue by 67% in the following 10 years. The Olympics are big money for the cities that can handle them.
