Am I a bad tenant? Why I got kicked out of my commercial lease twice in three years. It sounds implausible but our medical practice got kicked out of our lease TWICE in 3 years. Were we irresponsible tenants? No. We were in the wrong place at the wrong time. Twice. The first time we were ousted and it was because the landlord wanted to convert the building from commercial to residential. They wouldn’t permit us to work there while they remodeled the whole building. We tried unsuccessfully to purchase our own building in 2019, but failed. The owners took it off the market. So we rented again. It cost 1.4M to build out our space. After only 3 years we got kicked out of that location too. After Covid, our landlord no longer wanted their building. We tried to buy the building from our landlord – and failed again. The city bought it. They wanted to put a school in the building and would not allow us to stay. After not succeeding twice, we purchased a space for our practice in 2022. This time, we can stay for good.
