Valisure has filed our 8th FDA Citizen Petition, where we present our findings that benzoyl peroxide acne treatment products are fundamentally unstable and can form benzene, a known human carcinogen, at hundreds of times the conditional FDA limit. Unlike Valisure's previous findings of benzene in sunscreens, hand sanitizers and other consumer products where the benzene came from contaminated raw materials; the benzene in benzoyl peroxide products come from the drug itself degrading into benzene, meaning that the benzoyl peroxide market is broadly affected. The scope of our findings extends beyond the products themselves. Not only were elevated levels of benzene identified within benzoyl peroxide products, but it was also detected in the air surrounding incubated benzoyl peroxide products. This poses a potential inhalation risk, suggesting that benzene can leak out of certain product packages. The implications of our discovery are deeply concerning. Valisure is requesting an immediate investigation and market withdrawal of benzoyl peroxide containing products.
