I've discovered some pretty wild things about leadership since wading into the literature and practice of leading. The biggest thing? Good leadership is for everyone. Literally. See the board behind me? For those that can't make out what's on it, I've written things like: - Empathy - Character - Expertise - Competence - Expectations - Clarification and - ↑↓Trust = Speed ↑↓ To whom was I teaching the pillars and principles of trust? To managers? To company executives? No! To electricians. To HVAC techs. To plumbers. The same principles that apply to good leadership ALSO apply to good service technicians. And just as trust makes or breaks the employee experience of a leader/manager/supervisor, it can also make or break the customer experience of a service technician. In the end, the art of good leadership is the art of human connection, and everyone could stand to learn a thing or two more about connecting to humans well, regardless of rank or role at work.
