For this week’s #InsideCircetUSA from Circet USA, we spoke with Rustin Fagan, Supervisor of Health and Safety for Circet USA’s Safety, Quality & Sustainability Team. Going on 11 years with the company, what Rustin loves most about his job is the support he gets from leadership and working with his fellow team members. “If you look at the SQS group, you will find people who are loyal, self-motivated, smart, and invested in doing whatever they can to help the company succeed. This starts at the top of our leadership team with Jason Taylor and carries through his directors down to the Manager and Entry Level Support Roles.” Rustin also made a point to recognize his Director, Brian Fuller. He began working for Brian when he was asked to join his team 10 years ago and has been essential to his career growth during that time. “I would say the thing (Brian) hears the most when he answers the phone is ‘Hey, I got a question’ and he’s always happy to answer.” A typical work week for Rustin is split between field visits, research, and reporting. Maintaining the safety culture at Circet USA involves many moving parts and cooperation is required at all levels to ensure the culture remains effective and budget friendly. The safety team must ensure everyone knows the safety requirements and how to efficiently maintain compliance, from the new worker on day one to the VP, who has been here for over twenty years. Rustin’s career path started as a firefighter/EMT. He worked for his local Fire Department for two years but wanted to do more. When he was asked to join Brian’s team, there was no question he had made the right decision. “I had seen workplace accidents firsthand as a firefighter, so what better option than to take a chance to educate myself and prevent similar types of accidents from occurring altogether?” Rustin told us one thing he would still like to learn is ongoing, and it’s simply to grow and be a better person. “No human should ever give up on growing. I think we tend to value self-improvement less as we get older. We become more set in our ways, tend to go on less spontaneous adventures, and quit looking for knowledge. Life and the world are constantly changing around us.
