Ka hiwa rā! Ka hiwa rā! Check out the new easy-to-read handbook, ‘Your Guide to Measles’, for parents and tamariki. Developed by Jacki Seaward (Ngāti Porou, Communicable Disease Nurse Tairāwhiti) to support Tairāwhiti whānau, it’s now available nationwide. Jacki aimed to create a resource that truly connects with whānau and the wider community. “Measles is a preventable disease, yet with low immunisation rates, it remains a very real threat—only a plane ride away from potentially sparking an outbreak here in Aotearoa. My goal was to make something that’s easy to read, bright, and provides clear information to empower whānau to protect their loved ones." “Getting immunisation, on time, is one of the most important things whānau can do to protect themselves. By providing this resource, I hope we reach as many people as possible, encouraging them to immunise themselves and tamariki protecting not only them but also our wider community in the event of an outbreak.” “It’s about meeting people where they are, making sure everyone has access to the information they need to stay safe and healthy.” 💙

Making the world a better place starts by working to support and promote health, education and community wellbeing in the diverse places we call home around the world. In some places, support may mean helping communities affected by crisis or in other places it may mean proactively supporting disease awareness, access to screening and diagnostics or helping to build clinics to support people accessing treatment. Totally agree! This would be an amazing step forward. The current definitions are good, but it makes things such as BAJIR Registry harder when they differ subtly. Which to use?? To agree on an updated common definition worldwide would have great value. A brilliant directive EBJIS (European Bone & Joint Infection Society)
Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon in Limb Reconstruction and Bone Infection Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust
Really impressed to hear that the EBJIS (European Bone & Joint Infection Society) are working towards agreeing a universal definition for Prosthetic Joint Infection by collaborating with all the important stake-holders globally. This collaboration is really inspiring. Thanks to Marjan Wouthuyzen-Bakker who will Chair this important work and to all the societies who have agreed to work towards this important goal. Really ambitious and exciting collaboration!

Gain of Function is Gain of Disfunction Should be banned
JUST IN - Former Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Director Robert Redfield says, "It's not a question of if, it's more of a question of when we will have a bird flu pandemic." "I'm less concerned that this will happen through spillover and evolution in animals, I'm much more concerned that this will happen in the laboratory through gain-of-function research ... I can create this virus literally in weeks to months." We need an immediate global moratorium on all H5N1 GOF research and thorough investigations into all laboratories conducting this research, as well as the companies that are funding or have funded it, including the Gates Foundation. #MFPolicy

Nearly 1 in every 100 babies is born with a congenital heart defect. While some heart defects can be repaired, they cannot be cured. During Congenital Heart Defect Awareness Week, let's raise awareness of the specialized care needed to support those affected by heart defects. Receiving a heart defect diagnosis for a child can be scary for the whole family, but providing resources and support can make all the difference. Learn more from Centers for Disease Control and Prevention at https://lnkd.in/ezXZnZTa.
