A few months ago, a friend asked me why I hadn't considered becoming a board member given my broad experience in pharmaceutical product and portfolio strategy. Intrigued, I decided to educate myself on boards to potentially make a positive impact in the future. AstraZeneca Macclesfield's 33rd Engineering SHE Awards was where I delivered my brother's story on Wednesday. And I'll admit to having been a bit apprehensive that I was there to tell a sad story on a day that was about celebrating their safety successes. But reassurance came in many forms: 🔸️one of the award winners telling me immediately afterwards that he'd been inspired do even more; 🔸️when asked to fill in feedback forms scoring the presentations on a scale of 1 to 5, one attendee coming back to tell me he was scoring Michael's Story as 150; 🔸️Ian Adamson 's message afterwards to say that while the event is about celebrating successes, it's also an opportunity to share personal stories like my own, to keep everyone focused on why the need to remain vigilant and never complacent about past performance; and 🔸️an attendee who had taken time to reflect on decisions he had made recently which maybe hadn't put safety as the top priority. All of that was then topped off by being told by another attendee that Sodexo are using my brother's story in their staff training. And coincidentally, on the way home on the train, I realised I'd been sent this photo by a fellow FACK-er, saying she'd just done a training video at work, and look who'd made an appearance. Quite the week for Mickey Tam's legacy. Thanks to everyone who makes this all possible.
