Purdue Engineering application pool rises to its highest-ever level! Since 2013, applications to #Purdue with Engineering as the first-choice educational goal have more than doubled, growing from 11,030 to 28,137. “It is exciting to see that Purdue #Engineering is now among the top engineering colleges in terms of market demand. Our continuing innovations in quality undergraduate education at scale are reflected in the historic high rankings of our undergraduate programs,” said Arvind Raman, the John A. Edwardson Dean of the College of Engineering. Incoming student enrollment in West Lafayette — expected to surpass 3,300 students in Fall 2024 — will shatter the previous record, set in Fall 2021. Another estimated 500 students will enroll at Purdue University in Indianapolis, where applications surged 204 percent from Fall 2023 to Fall 2024. Full article: https://bit.ly/4cjNeo4

Honored to serve as one of six professional judges for the Syracuse University engineering invention competition. In this age of digital and exponential change, where everything evolves at a rapid pace, fostering a mindset of intellectual curiosity and the skill set of innovation is crucial. Without curiosity and innovation, new services, products, capabilities, and outcomes won't emerge. I sincerely applaud Syracuse University for encouraging innovation and invention. It is often said that "necessity is the mother of invention," and these engineering students—from aerospace, civil, mechanical, electrical, and biological disciplines—have embraced this truth. Their innovative ideas address real-world needs, helping babies, the elderly, pets, firefighters, parents, and patients thrive in their lives and roles. It's inspiring to witness the next generation of engineers rise to the challenge and push the boundaries of what's possible. Congratulations to all the participants for their hard work and creativity. The future is bright with your talent and vision lighting the way. #Innovation #Engineering #SyracuseUniversity #InventionCompetition #FutureLeaders #STEM #Curiosity #InnovationForChange #EngineeringExcellence

I have mixed feelings about this - public schools are intended to be accessible and affordable to the general public, not only the elite. So how do you justify the grad school tuition ranging closer to a private institution like Stanford than another public graduate program like Georgia Tech? I am going there, online, for less than 10% of the price of the UC Berkeley equivalent graduate CS program, and I do not need to move or pay for overpriced student housing near the campus. In fact, my professional *degree* is going to cost half as much as a UC Berkeley *bootcamp* in data analytics - a certificate program! Given that most employers think in "tiers" of programs, not numerical ranks, UC Berkeley might want to look into offering more affordable, online options for graduate school - especially if public institutions in the same tier already are. It's not only responsible for prospective students, it's also necessary to remain competitive in the brave new world of online education! The times, they are a-changin'!

We’re thrilled to share the fantastic results of our students’ performance on the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam for 2024! Key Highlights🤩 ⚡ Passing Rate: 100% (8 out of 8 students) 👩🎓 Breakdown: 6 undergraduate and 2 graduate students 🇺🇸 National Average: 66% Our students not only achieved a perfect passing rate but also excelled in individual subjects, scoring at or above the national average. Context: In fall 2023, 11 students took the FE exam, with 9 passing (82%)—a significantly higher rate than the national average of 63% during that period. In the 2023-24 academic year, 17 of our undergraduates sat for the exam, an impressive percentage considering our cohort of 20 seniors. Let’s celebrate their hard work, dedication, and outstanding achievement! #SCUengineering

After recently being asked about why I studied industrial engineering, I remembered this - hopefully - gem from August 2022: https://lnkd.in/dYJ-CJb5 The NWU Faculty of Engineering hosted an Online Open Day as part of an effort to reach more potential students. I was fortunate enough to be asked to share my experiences of studying Industrial Engineering, as a final year. In this session were my former lecturers, Hanneke Meijer and Fanie Terblanche, and former school director Raj Siriram. I did not realise that in just more than a year from the day of recording, they would become my colleagues. During this interview, I was able to share how practical exposure to work environments shaped my ideas on how industrial engineering can make the world a better place. Although COVID-19 threw a spanner into the works during my undergraduate studies, amazing lecturers like Teresa Hattingh, Hanneke Meijer, Meelan Roopa and Mia Mangaroo-Pillay found ways to continue with the NWU Industrial Engineering tradition of practical projects in industry. One of the greatest privileges of lecturing this year was to support and guide students to do similar projects in industry and hopefully do justice to the great work Meelan Roopa did during my COVID-stricken 3rd year. Some of my students simulated coffee shops, licensing offices and tyre repair workshops. As a people person, learning with my students provided me with immense emotional satisfaction. Preparing for classes improved my communication skills significantly whilst examining students tested (pun intended) my ability to critically evaluate other people's work. Now, without further ado... Ladies and gentlemen, grab a seat, some popcorn and be ready to witness version 2022.08.22 of myself. Some glitches in this version include: - bowtie-less (media people forced me to take it off) - fidgety (putting the H in ADHD) - long-haired (wanted to test it out before going into industry) - cringy (prefrontal cortex still loading...)
