Some times on some days are perfect for capturing the right meaning for certain words. June 6th--the anniversary of D-Day--was a great day to think about the ancient Etruscan word, "saeculum". A saeculum is the unit of time between when a major event happened and when the last person who experienced that event died. It was an important concept for the Etruscans, as they believed their own nation was granted only so many saecula. As the world gets increasingly dangerous, we're rapidly approaching closing out the saeculum of World War II--and by "we", I mean the entire world. (And many thanks to the RAND Corporation's David Ochmanek for bringing that word into national security circles.) Without that generation's perspective, how does our thinking of the myriad national security challenges change? Good time to listen to Andy Rooney's reflections on the invasion of Normandy, and reflect on what that means. Miss listening to your insightful and wise commentary, Andy. https://lnkd.in/eEM33mTz #reflect #respect #security #

"When Americans lend a hand to one another, nothing is impossible. We’re not about what happened on 9/11. We’re about what happened on 9/12." Jeff Parness Do you remember what happened on 9.12.01? Americans were united. We showed compassion, empathy, and grace with one another. There was also a profound sense of unity and solidarity. We came together in ways that transcended differences in political beliefs, race, religion, and background. Strangers offered support to one another, and communities held vigils, and fundraisers for the victims and their families. The sight of first responders risking their lives to rescue others became a symbol of courage and selflessness, and the American flag became a powerful representation of national pride and resilience. The nation collectively mourned, but there was also a strong determination to rebuild and respond. America stood together, embodying a spirit of resilience and solidarity in the face of overwhelming adversity. As you go out into the world this week and the next...and the next, I challenge you to be intensely reminded of viewing people through THIS lens. Through the lens of 9.12. Seek to SEE people, not just look at them. Take ACTION, over apathy. Invest in RELATIONSHIPS, not differing systems or beliefs. #unite #growth #professionaldevelopment #teamleadership #connect

The legacy of FDR's Civilian Conservation Corps lives on through The Corps Network (TCN), providing environmental justice and economic mobility for 25,000 young adults and veterans each year. TCN's commitment to racial equity began at the grassroots level, leading to the launch of the Moving Forward Initiative in 2017. Key benefits of this initiative include: - A deeper understanding of structural racism and unconscious bias - Rethinking post-service opportunities for Corpsmembers - Formal investments in racial equity programming - Creation of advisory councils to prioritize Corpsmembers’ experiences Navigating a network of 139 organizations, TCN's approach demonstrates how complex networks can engage in meaningful racial equity conversations. Juneteenth is an important day in American history, commemorating the end of slavery in the United States. On June 19, 1865, Union soldiers arrived in Galveston, Texas, to announce that the Civil War had ended and that all enslaved people were now free. This announcement came over two years after President Abraham Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation, which had officially abolished slavery in the confederate states. As we mark this significant milestone, it is essential to remember that the fight for freedom and justice for all continues. Juneteenth serves as a reminder that progress can be slow and uneven and that we must remain vigilant in our efforts to combat systemic racism and discrimination. At Lockheed Martin Aeronautics, my team is committed to creating a diverse and inclusive work environment where everyone feels valued and respected and advocating for ongoing change. We recognize that diversity and inclusion are essential to our success and a culture of belonging allows our team to be seen, heard, and valued. As we celebrate Juneteenth, let us continue our commitment to promoting equality and justice for all. Together, we can build a better future for ourselves and future generations 💙 #Juneteenth #Freedom #Justice #Diversity #Inclusion #Belonging

Today, we honor the memory of those we lost on September 11, 2001 and throughout the Global War on Terrorism. We reflect on the courage of first responders, the strength of survivors, and the unity of a nation that “stood together” in the face of adversity. As we commemorate this day, let us remember the core values that make our society strong: pride, togetherness, and resilience. These are the #BuildingBlocks of a great society, and they remind us that even in the darkest times, we can find light through unity and compassion. On September 12, 2001, the American spirit was marked by a palpable change and sense of unity, resilience, and determination. The day after the tragic events of 9/11, Americans came together in an unprecedented show of solidarity. 1. People from all walks of life, regardless of their backgrounds, joined hands to support one another. There was a collective sense of being part of a larger community, united by shared grief and a common purpose. 2. American flags were displayed everywhere, symbolizing national pride and a commitment to the country’s values. The attacks had intended to break the nation’s spirit, but instead, they strengthened it. 3. Despite the immense sorrow and shock, there was a strong resolve to rebuild and recover. Americans demonstrated remarkable resilience, determined to overcome the tragedy and emerge stronger. 4. There was a renewed devotion to the principles of freedom, democracy, and respect for human life. The attacks reinforced the importance of these values and the determination to uphold them. The spirit of 9/11 and the years that followed, were a testament to the strength and resilience of the American people, showing that even in the darkest times, unity and compassion can light the way forward. Let us all commit to getting #BacktoBasics of what America stands for. Liberty and Justice for all, where the power lies with the people, fair and free elections, equal opportunities for all Americans, Innovation and Progress, Community and Responsibility, and the pursuit of Happiness #BrandBrigade #WeAreVensure Vensure Employer Solutions Dr. Brandon Smith Bryan Webb Anjeela Gyawali Amanda Thompson Akshita Verma Amanda Pineiro Merrie E.
