This thin-section Thursday is not intended to be too deep and meaningful.... maybe because here in the UK there is an election today so everybody is 'on hold' waiting for the result. Today's image however is from the Zagros range and shows dolomitised Cretaceous carbonates (red luminescence.... no political comment intended....) which pass out into some spectacularly zoned post-dolomitisation calcite spar, with a complex growth pattern. Such post-dolomite calcites are common in the later phases of higher temperature burial systems and sadly are not very condusive for the preservation of optimum porosities in the subsurface.
