Upstart Spain Confront Seasoned France For Spot In Euros Final https://ift.tt/t4q7naY Munich, (APP – UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 9th Jul, 2024) Luis de la Fuente’s Spain are the form team of Euro 2024 but face tournament specialists France in Tuesday’s semi-final in Munich. Spain have lit up Euro 2024, winning all Five games while scoring 11 goals and are just one win away from the final. To get there however, Spain will need to go through a France side who while not impressing in Germany have shown their expertise and experience at major tournaments to navigate their way to the final four. France have only scored three goals at Euro 2024, none of which have come from general play. Misfiring captain Kylian Mbappe, playing in a specialized mask due to a broken nose sustained in the opening fixture against Austriahas scored from the spot once, while the French have benefited from two own goals. Led by coach Didier Deschamps however, France have shown the necessary nous and guile to go within one game of their fourth final in the last five major tournaments. With a 25-year-old captain and one of the youngest squads at Euro 2024, it is easy to overlook how the French have established themselves as the dominant force in Europe football over the past decade. Since a quarter-final defeat by eventual champions Germany at the 2014 World cup, France have made the final at every major tournament other than Euro 2020. That run includes a World Cup triumph in 2018 and a loss on penalties to Argentina in Qatar four years later, along with an extra-time defeat by Portugal at Euro 2016 on home soil. The importance of France‘s experience at major tournaments has been clear in Germany. Despite a run to the semis, the French have failed to impress. France are yet to score from general play, with only an Mbappe penalty and two own goals in the plus column. That 1-0 loss to Germanyjust over 10 years ago, was their last defeat in regulation time at a major competition. Midfielder Adrien Rabiot said France had full faith even if they are yet to light the tournament on fire. “We’ve always talked about it being a team game, needing a team effort. It’s the case for all recent competitions we’ve played in and is the case at this Euros. “Even if we’ve had difficulties, we’re in the semi-finals.” A self-described pragmatist, coach Deschamps said Monday results are what matters at major tournaments. “Maybe it’s not the same As it was in the past, but we do have the ability to spark emotions and make lots of French men and women happy with our results.” De la Fuente shot down suggestions France were boring, but said Spain‘s game plan “is closer to a nice show, a nice Spectacle, if we do it right. “In that respect, we’re a nice team to watch.” Spain have scored 11 goals through eight different goalscorers, posing threats across the park. The Spain coach echoed his counterpart’s statements, even...

Day 10 of the UEFA EURO 2024 tournament, the first decision day from the group stages, is Sunday, 23. June. Group A is first up, and here are the two matches taking place at the same time, 21.00 (CEST). 🇨🇭 SWITZERLAND vs. GERMANY 🇩🇪 (GROUP A - 21.00, FRANKFURT): - Switzerland are currently on four points, 1-1-0 with the victory coming against Hungary by a 3-1 score and the draw being against Scotland 1-1. They simply need a draw to confirm knockout stage qualification in a top two spot, regardless of what happens in the match between Scotland and Hungary. A win is the only possible scenario where they win the group over Germany (as they would have 7 points and Germany 6), as a draw or German win means that the hosts will be going to Dortmund and not Berlin for their last sixteen matchup. Germany are 2-0-0 at this tournament, with a goal difference of +6 following a 5-1 win over Scotland and a 2-0 win over Hungary. - Germany and Switzerland last played each other in a UEFA Nations League group in 2020; the match in Switzerland was a 1-1 draw, the reverse in Germany ending 3-3. This was in the final year of Joachim Löw's term as German coach - since then, Hans-Dieter Flick and Julian Nagelsmann have been in the role, each with their own different tactics. 🏴 SCOTLAND vs. HUNGARY 🇭🇺 (GROUP A - 21.00, STUTTGART): - The other match of the day is in Stuttgart, featuring Scotland, who are 0-1-1 in the group with a -4 goal difference after a 1-5 defeat to Germany and a 1-1 draw with the Swiss; they take on Hungary, who are one point behind the Scots at 0-0-2, following two defeats by two goals each, 1-3 against Hungary and 0-2 against Germany. A Scottish win means likely knockout qualification in third place, as goal difference would go Switzerland's way should they lose to Germany by less than four. Hungary can finish third in the group at best, as a win means they finish on three points with goal difference being involved in the ranking - their knockout qualification is not certain regardless of a win. Both teams would be certainly eliminated in the case of a draw. - Scotland and Hungary have not faced each other since 2018, a 1-0 Scottish win in Budapest in a friendly; the prior match between the two was played in 2004, and all of them have been international friendlies; this is the first time they will take part in competition. Looking forward to what these matches will bring and how Group A will finish. Best of luck to all four teams taking part! #football #soccer #euro2024 #uefaeuro2024 #em2024 #switzerland #schweiz #suisse #svizzera #svizra #germany #deutschland #scotland #hungary #magyarország

The second day of the round of sixteen at UEFA EURO 2024 is Sunday, 30. June. Here are the two matches taking place in Germany, involving two of Europe's powerhouses and two surprise teams with impressive styles of play. 🏴 ENGLAND vs. SLOVAKIA 🇸🇰 (18.00 - GELSENKIRCHEN): - England finished undefeated in the group stage, with a 1-2-0 record in a group they were expected to dominate; their only victory came 1-0 vs. Serbia, and their two draws since then were 1-1 vs. Denmark and 0-0 vs. Slovenia. Slovakia finished with one less point in a group where all four teams finished tied on points (the first time in EURO history), 1-1-1 and third in the group with a 1-0 upset over Belgium, 1-2 vs. Ukraine, and a 1-1 draw vs. Romania that saw both teams go through. - England are 5-1-0 against Slovakia in their history, with a 2-1 win in 2017 being the most recent encounter. These two teams did play at UEFA EURO 2016 however, and it was a 0-0 draw; Slovakia are looking to count on that and England's recent record to pull off a possible extra time upset here. - England are the heavy favourite, with Google predicting them to have a 67 % chance of winning in the ninety; there is a 22 % chance of extra time and an 11 % chance of Slovakia taking the match. 🇪🇸 SPAIN vs. GEORGIA 🇬🇪 (21.00 - COLOGNE): - Spain are the only perfect team at this European Championship with a 3-0-0 record without conceding a single goal; add in the fact that they did it in the toughest group out of all of them and they are now the heavy favourite to win the tournament, with a 3-0 win vs. Croatia, 1-0 vs. Italy, and 1-0 vs. Albania. They take on Georgia, who defeated a similar tiki-taka tactic used by Portugal in their first win in EURO history, a 2-0 result that saw them advance with a 1-1-1 record and third in Group F after losing their opening match with Türkiye and drawing their previous match 1-1 with Czechia - they are looking to count on that to defeat a Spanish squad that plays much the same way. - Spain and Georgia were drawn in the same World Cup qualifying group and EURO qualifying group in the last four years, and the results were this: 2-1 to Spain away, 4-0 to Spain at home (WC), 7-1 to Spain away, 3-1 to Spain at home (EURO). A 7-1 result in a knockout match is almost impossible, but recent history is on Spain's side for this one to score at least three goals, possibly even in one half like they did with Croatia. - Google says there is an 81 % chance of Spain winning, a 13 % chance of a draw, and a 6 % chance of Georgia making it in their already history-making tournament. If Georgia defy the odds, it would cause great joy across their country; they have 90 + another possible 30 difficult minutes to get through first before quarterfinal football is considered. Should be a great day of football as the knockout stage is underway! #football #soccer #euro2024 #uefaeuro2024 #em2024 #germany #england #slovakia #slovensko #spain #españa #georgia #საქართველო

It is a four-match Day 12 at UEFA EURO 2024, as Groups C and D are settled on Tuesday, 25. June. Here is the schedule for decision day, with eight teams, a full third of the field, taking part at four venues across Germany. 🇫🇷 FRANCE vs. POLAND 🇵🇱 (GROUP D - 18.00, DORTMUND): 🇳🇱 NETHERLANDS vs. AUSTRIA 🇦🇹 (GROUP D - 18.00, BERLIN): - France, who are 1-1-0 in Group D with a single goal for and none conceded, head to Dortmund to take on Poland, who are already eliminated at 0-0-2 with losses to the Netherlands and Austria. In the other match in Berlin, the Netherlands, who are tied for first in the group with a 1-1-0 record, take on Austria, who are 1-0-1 after losing to France by one but winning against Poland by two. A point for Austria in that match means that three teams from this group will advance to the knockout stages, but the Dutch, who can finish first in the group and currently hold the lead on goals scored, will not be an easy test. - France and Poland faced each other in the round of 16 at the 2022 FIFA World Cup, with the French victors 3-1; in a way, the 0-0 draw meant that France played a role in eliminating the Poles in the second consecutive major tournament. The Netherlands and Austria played in the group stage of UEFA EURO 2020, with the end result being 2-0 to the Dutch. 🇩🇰 DENMARK vs. SERBIA 🇷🇸 (GROUP C - 21.00, MUNICH): 🏴 ENGLAND vs. SLOVENIA 🇸🇮 (GROUP C - 21.00, COLOGNE): - Denmark are 0-2-0 in the group, having drawn both of their matches with Slovenia and England. Serbia are not too far behind, having also drawn Slovenia in a late finish but losing to England on a single goal. England are the most favoured team in this group, 1-1-0 and almost certainly into the knockout stage; Slovenia, like Denmark, are also 0-2-0. There are three teams all within a point of each other, and it is possible that one of them can qualify with three draws, but if two teams with one or two points lose their matches, they are certainly eliminated from knockout football. - Denmark and Serbia played in an international friendly in March 2022, while both teams were preparing for the World Cup tournament; the Danes won by a final result of 3-0. England's last match against Slovenia was a FIFA World Cup qualifying match in 2017, a 1-0 win courtesy of a ninetieth-minute goal from Harry Kane. The last two decision days have seen epic finishes in Group A and Group B - will we see another in one of these two? #football #soccer #euro2024 #uefaeuro2024 #em2024 #germany #france #poland #polska #netherlands #holland #nederland #austria #österreich #denmark #danmark #serbia #srbija #србија #england #slovenia #slovenija

France Edges Austria 1-0 in Euro 2024 Opener Despite Mbappe’s Injury In a closely contested match at the Merkur Spiel-Arena, France secured a narrow 1-0 victory against Austria in their Euro 2024 opener, courtesy of a Maximilian Woeber own goal. The win marks a positive start to their campaign as they aim to reclaim the European Championship title. The only goal of the match came in the 38th minute when Woeber inadvertently diverted Kylian Mbappe's cutback into his own net, giving the French team a crucial lead going into halftime. Despite dominating possession, France faced a resilient Austrian side under the management of Ralf Rangnick, whose pressing game posed significant challenges for the 2022 World Cup runners-up throughout the match. However, the victory was not without its concerns for Didier Deschamps' squad. Kylian Mbappe, a pivotal figure in France's attack, was forced to leave the field late in the game due to a collision that left him with a bloodied nose. This injury raises questions about his availability for upcoming fixtures and adds a layer of uncertainty to France's campaign. The match was significant not only for its on-field action but also for the backdrop of political discussions surrounding the French team. In the lead-up to the tournament, players, including Mbappe, had been addressing questions about the upcoming elections in France, which could potentially influence the country's political landscape significantly. The focus and determination shown by the French squad on the pitch, amidst these distractions, underscore their professionalism and commitment to performing at the highest level. With this victory, France joins the Netherlands at the top of Group D, each team having secured three points from their respective opening matches. The Netherlands overcame Poland 2-1 in a thrilling encounter in Hamburg, setting the stage for an exciting battle for supremacy in the group. France's next challenge will be against Poland, where they will look to build on their winning start and consolidate their position in the group. The outcome of Mbappe's injury will undoubtedly be closely monitored in the coming days as Les Bleus continue their quest to capture their third European Championship title, their first since 2000. As the tournament progresses, all eyes will be on France to see if they can maintain their focus and determination amidst both sporting and political pressures, as they strive to reaffirm their status as one of Europe's footballing powerhouses. https://lnkd.in/d5S2zS7D

As Messi awaits, a look at the 10 best players CanMNT have ever faced – Canadian Premier League On Thursday, the Canadian men’s national team will open the 2024 Copa América against a living legend of the game, Argentina’s Lionel Messi. With a stunning eight Ballons d’Or won, Messi is unquestionably the best player that Canada has ever come up against. However, over the years they have faced many football legends in friendlies, World Cup matches and other competitions. Canada have played against multiple superstars of the Dutch, German, Spanish and Brazilian teams of the 1990s, France at the 1986 World Cup, England legends like Gary Lineker and Peter Shilton, as well as the likes of Kevin De Bruyne at the 2022 World Cup. They faced a number of top opponents ahead of the 1994 World Cup in the United States, which is playing out again in the lead-up to 2026 with recent friendlies against the likes of the Netherlands and France. It shows how significant this opportunity is for the team to use this platform as World Cup hosts to test themselves against top teams before the tournament. In honour of the famous number 10 they’ll be playing on Thursday, here is a look at 10 of the best players that the Canadian men’s national team has ever faced in international action. RELATED: PREVIEW: CanMNT prepare for battle with Lionel Messi, Argentina in Copa América opener Sergio Agüero, Argentina As Canada gets set for its latest meeting against Argentina, it is worth looking back to the last time they played in 2010 ahead of that year’s FIFA World Cup. Canada were ultimately dominated 5-0 on that day with Maxi Rodríguez, Ángel Di María and Carlos Tevez all scoring. The fifth goalscorer, however, was none other than Sergio Agüero, who would go on to become one of the most prolific strikers in English Premier League history. Agüero scored 260 times in all competitions for Manchester City, winning the league five times, and an FA Cup in 2018-19. With Argentina, he won an Olympic gold medal in 2008, a Copa América in 2021 and was World Cup runner-up in 2021. That goal against Canada was the eighth of 41 he ultimately scored for his country. Dennis Bergkamp, The Netherlands In the lead-up to the 1994 World Cup in the United States, Canada played several home friendlies against top opposition. One such matchup came against the Dutch at Toronto’s Varsity Stadium on June 12, 1994. That star-studded Dutch team featured several legends, including Arsenal star Dennis Bergkamp, who opened the scoring in a 3-0 victory for the Netherlands on that day. Marc Overmars and Frank Rijkaard also scored for the Oranje. The three-time English Premier League champion was a part of Arsenal’s ‘Invincibles’ team that went undefeated in 2003-04. He scored 120 goals and also won four FA Cups during his time with the Gunners. Cafu, Brazil On June 5, 1994 Canada earned one of their most impressive results in national team history as they drew powerhouse Brazil 1-1 in fro...

𝗡𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱𝘀 𝘃𝘀 𝗘𝗻𝗴𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱: 𝗘𝘂𝗿𝗼 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟰 𝘀𝗲𝗺𝗶-𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄 England take on the Netherlands in the second semi-final of the European Championships. The bookmakers have the Three Lions as the marginal favourites to win. Gareth Southgate’s team are 13/8, the draw is 7/4 and the Netherlands are 21/10 In the head-to-head, the Netherlands have won seven, England have won six, and there have been nine draws. The last time the two nations met was in the semi-finals of the 2019 UEFA Nations League. The match finished 1-1 after 90 minutes, with the Netherlands completing a 3-1 win after extra time. In five matches at #Euro2024, the Netherlands have scored nine and conceded five. England have scored five and conceded three. In the knockout section, the Dutch defeated Romania 3-0 in the Round of 16, and Türkiye 2-1 in the quarter-final. #England was seconds away from going out to Slovakia in the Round of 16 until Jude Bellingham’s spectacular overhead kick saved Gareth Southgate from becoming public enemy No.1. The Three Lions completed a 2-1 win over the Slovaks, and then in the quarter-finals, they knocked out Switzerland on penalties after a 1-1 draw. Looking ahead to tonight’s match, will the Dutch take the game to England? Or will they play it cautiously, noting how England have struggled to break down teams who have sat back against them at Euro 2024? The Dutch have a tradition of playing complete football. But at Euro 2024, this hasn’t always been the case. After a cautious group stage, Ronald Koeman’s team played some more pleasing on-the-eye stuff in the knockouts. But with the stakes high, will they be as expansive against England? England has been cautious throughout the tournament. If the Dutch do play more openly, could that be the trigger for England to finally be more expansive? It will be an interesting watch. Don’t be surprised to see the tie go to extra-time or penalties. #freelancewriting | #footballcontent | #footballbetting | #englandfootball | #nedVeng | #contentwriting

Here is the schedule for Day 3 of UEFA EURO 2024 (Sunday, 16. June): 🇵🇱 POLAND vs. NETHERLANDS 🇳🇱 (GROUP D - 15.00, HAMBURG): - Poland, who uniquely qualified for the European Championship by winning on penalties against Wales in a playoff without having taken a single shot on target through 120 minutes, take on the Netherlands, who finished second in their qualifying group with a 6-0-2 record. Those two losses came to France, one of the two other teams they will face in the group at this tournament (Austria is the other one). - Poland and the Netherlands have faced off in four matches in both of the two most recent Nations League campaigns; the Dutch went 3-1-0 (1-0, 2-1, 2-2, 2-0). 🇸🇮 SLOVENIA vs. DENMARK 🇩🇰 (GROUP C - 18.00, STUTTGART): - Speaking of teams that faced each other in their qualifying group, Slovenia and Denmark have been drawn into the same European Championship group and will face each other in Stuttgart in their opening matches on Sunday. The two teams drew 1-1 in Slovenia in June but Denmark were victorious at home by a 2-1 score just five months later. - Despite doubts early on, Denmark had strong September, October, and November campaigns, and last year's EURO semifinalists finished with a 7-1-2 record, top of the group; Slovenia finished second, with a 7-1-2 record as well but with head-to-head the tiebreaker, Denmark won first even though Slovenia had a better goal differential (+11 to +9). Finland and Kazakhstan also had winning records of 6-0-4 from that close group, but would both exit in the first round of playoffs to Wales and Greece, respectively. 🇷🇸 SERBIA vs. ENGLAND 🏴 (GROUP C - 21.00, GELSENKIRCHEN): - Serbia, who finished second in their qualifying group with a 4-2-2 record (only behind Hungary), take on last year's European finalists (and a heavily favoured team to win this tournament) in England, who topped their qualifying group with an undefeated 6-2-0 record, a group that included the likes of Italy, Ukraine, and North Macedonia, as well as Malta. - Interestingly enough, this will be the first time that England faces Serbia as an independent nation; England last played against Serbia and Montenegro back in 2003, winning 2-1. That said, there are no prior results in this generation of Serbian football that can give an outlook of how this match could end up - Serbia are underdogs, but they may be able to win considering they have defeated, or come close to, teams of England's calibre in the last two years. Should be an exciting day of action in this tournament! #football #soccer #euro2024 #uefaeuro2024 #em2024 #germany #poland #polska #netherlands #holland #nederland #slovenia #slovenija #denmark #danmark #serbia #srbija #србија #england
