But when the sun went down, it was time for some serious fun! 🎶 The DJ parties under the starry night sky were epic, with everyone showing off their best dance moves and having a blast. The energy and enthusiasm were off the charts! The smiles on everyone's faces were contagious. From laughter-filled team games to mouth-watering BBQ nights, this trip was a rollercoaster of emotions and experiences. 🍔🏆 We left Jim Corbett with not just great memories, but also a renewed sense of togetherness and motivation. This offsite was a reminder that work doesn't have to be all about deadlines and meetings. Everyone has been asking, and I finally put together some information about how we switched to a four day week at Aeolidia (and I've started giving talks about this - let me know if you'd like to interview me or host a presentation). "Some pleasant surprises about the four day week: More focus, less time wasting, more motivation to get tasks done. No more lull days where you feel like the weekend is so far away and you still need to rally (that was usually Thursdays for me). The weeks fly by, the weekend always feels so close. Work doesn’t feel like the biggest thing you do in your life but rather something significant you do along with other things." --Barbara Kowalski, Web Designer on our team. You can read about it on our blog, and I'd love to answer questions here in the comments - it will be different for every business, but I firmly believe it's doable for just about every business with some creative thinking and careful planning. To prepare, we had weekly team discussions (asynchronous, in ClickUp) about: - Eliminating wasted time - Setting boundaries and expectations - The illusion of perfection - Exercise and rest - Team building The 4 Day Week team told us that most organizations divide their time this way, on average: - 5% of time on value-added activities (doing profitable work for clients) - 35% of time on unavoidable waste (doing internal work that needs to be done) - 60% of time on avoidable waste We asked every person on the team to report back to us with anything that they suspected might be a waste of time. For example, doing more work than was necessary, creating work that no one was using, or causing delays. Then we worked together on ways to optimize or remove those tasks. ...and that's just a tiny slice of how we prepared. Read the rest on our blog (linked in the comments). Our entire Hamburg Front Row team came together, and here's how it went: 𝗧𝗲𝗮𝗺𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗶𝗻 𝗳𝗼𝗰𝘂𝘀: Our day began with breakout sessions, highlighting the importance of diverse perspectives and collaboration. We also discussed how to improve and innovate Catapult services. 𝗥𝗲𝗳𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴: We looked back at our achievements and set ambitious goals for 2024, ready to conquer new challenges in the ecommerce world. 𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘁 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀: Keynotes from industry experts like Christoph Henning from Amazon and Corinna Hohenleitner from Criteo, alongside Maximilian Zinser's perspective on building a D2C business for Dr. Wolff, provided valuable foresight and inspiration. 𝗔𝗜 𝗯𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗸𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘀𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀: We ended the day with a great working session, asking ourselves two very important questions: 👉 What internal process are we currently doing manually that could be automated? 👉 What new services and value can we provide our clients through AI? Ultimately, every team prepared a two-minute elevator pitch, with the winning team getting their travel to our next summer office paid! 𝗖𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗯𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆: We enjoyed the rest of the evening with food, drinks and great music. Company retreats generate ideas destined for the dusty office corner. Or that's how it usually goes. Here's what we're doing instead.👇 1. First day into the retreat: we meet everybody, have a drink, catch up with our colleagues and partners (many of us work remote). 2. We organize our ideas in the second day (today!). One good brainstorming session is worth three bland ones. 3. We organize a hackathon, together with our partners and collaborators, also in the second day. Ideas without implementation lead nowhere, after all! 4. Into the 3rd day, we continue and wrap up our hackathon. Then, celebratory drinks! 5. Last day, the prototype for our next big project is ready. What does this accomplish? First off, no retreat fatigue: next week, we're back with the working tools to jumpstart our project - not just talk about it. Second off, we involve our partners: we walk the talk, and so do they. Progress is happening in real time. Last but not least - we accomplish all this in Alkemio. None of the results are lost. Every input can be used in all stages of the project.
