I read an interesting article via The Independent today, that highlighted more than a fifth of school-age unaccompanied children seeking asylum were not in school as of March last year. I can imagine this is also a high figure for many young people in Residential Care which is very concerning! 🤯 These young people should be encouraged with education & given the chance to learn crucial skills that can only be gained by attending school. It's definitely time to break the cycle & give all children the same opportunities to learn & flourish. https://lnkd.in/enpK-_PQ

WHY GIRL EDUCATION MATTERS: BREAKING BARRIERS AND BUILDING FUTURES Education is a fundamental right for every individual, irrespective of their caste, gender, race etc. But women have always been refused this right mainly because of societal conventions and female bias. Education is a very powerful tool which can produce many advantages if used in the right manner. Some of the advantages are: 1It helps eradicate poverty. 2It enhances creativity, confidence, and communication skills. 3It provides various opportunities and financial security 4It makes you self-independent and protects you. 5It helps to increase the economic growth of a nation. Many girls at a young age face problems due to which they are unable to pursue education. As seen in many cases, parents prioritise the education of their male child because of economic barriers like costs of tuition, transportation, and study material. They think girls are destined to do house chores, get married at a young age and if they study their money will go to waste while boys on the other hand are to become the sole income earner of the family and be the man of the house. Safety issues also prevents girls from attaining education, particularly in rural areas due to sexual harassment and violence towards them. Due to lack of female teachers ,some girls might find it uncomfortable and have difficulty in identifying themselves with a female elder to whom they can look up to and act as their role models. Overcoming these challenges will be crucial to achieve maximum girl education. The Right to Education Act,2009, guarantees all Indian girls the right to education as a fundamental right. It is vital to ensure that every girl has access to high quality education and the opportunity to self actualize. This will require continuous effort and commitment from governments and various communities and organizations. Education reduces inequality in society and empowers marginalised women and help them lead healthy, productive lives. This will also help in establishing a more stable and resilient society. Pehchaan The Street School is one such Non Profit Organization which aims to educate unprivileged children. They provide support to women who are considered the weaker section of society social communities across India by availing skill enhancement courses and aim on empowering them and running small businesses of their own.
