An experiment was conducted to see if greyhounds could compete with the speed of a cheetah. When the cages opened, folks were shocked that the cheetah didn't move. They asked the race coordinator what had happened and why the cheetah didn’t move. His response: “Sometimes trying to prove that you're the best is an insult to your self-worth. There is no need to lower yourself to other people’s level to make them understand your skills, qualities and contributions. It is better to save your energy for more worthy endeavours. A cheetah uses its speed to hunt, not to prove to dogs that it is faster and stronger. Don't waste your time and energy proving your value to folks who simply don’t possess the skill set to appreciate your value and worth. Move on.” #proveyourselfalwaysnotrequired

I listened to Andre Olivier once describe the African Impala – a beautiful and strong animal that makes a mockery of its pursuers in the wild. The cloven-hoofed medium-sized antelope is akin to the gazelle on the rock. The Impala can jump 3 metres high and fly 9 metres across while standing on a spot; that’s how it is able to outrun its pursuers in the wild. But, when captured and kept in the zoo, the fence erected for the Impala is usually about 1 metre high. Guess what? The Impala never jumps across that fence. Why? The fence is high enough to stop the Impala from seeing across it. And whatever the Impala cannot see, it cannot jump into, its enormous capacity to leap high and wide regardless. You will do yourself inestimable good when you mentally step away from the hurdle you face. By bringing it too close to your sight, you empower it to blur your vision; in fact, it replaces your vision. You focus too much on your challenges, obstacles, or hurdles because you are too close to them. By not seeing beyond the immediate, you are: -         empowering those hurdles to stiffen your creativity; -         stopping yourself from being able to go beyond “potential” and unleashing the greatness in you; -         discounting the capacity you have in you to overwhelm them. Our new uber tall (18 feet!)teeny bopper giraffe friends Jagger, Sonny and Mozzy have the biggest hearts of any land mammal. Yup! Their 2 feet long, 20+ pound hearts are even larger than an elephant's! This is why NVC (Non-Violent Communication) author Marshall Rosenberg coined the term "listening with giraffe ears" to help us grasp what it might be like to give empathy to others. It means to listen and speak from the heart and almost no mind which is typically where the finger-pointing "jackally” language comes from! Getting out of the office and out of your own way by learning how to delegate is one of the biggest gifts you can give to yourself and to all the amazing professionals who are ready to help you. Empathy and a culture of compassion has powered our remote first approach with team members across 5 continents. This has allowed me to cut the cord and run our business from all over the world in the last decade and has afforded me life changing experiences like this one! We apply many of these principles in our #solargrazing program. Many people are looking for a silver bullet or a magic formula for how to graze properties where one doesn’t exist. You have to adapt to the cadre of conditions that exist & be nimble to changes in real time. There are so many variables that a computer model-mindset or a codified #grazing plan won’t get you very far. There is an ART and a #science to managing #pastures well. It may not be perfect based on the species in the field, time of year, number of animals, how long they’re on a paddock, weather, etc. but you MUST develop an eye for what the vegetation status & animals performance is telling you.

Why is this a problem? 👉🏾 It’s a rest stop on the Atlantic Flyway, a route for migrating birds that follows the Atlantic coasts of Canada and the US, stretching from Greenland to South America and the Caribbean—over 3,000 miles! Bird Key provides a safe place for birds to rest on their journey 💤 As the only undeveloped and natural island in North Biscayne Bay, it’s also free of predators like raccoons. 👉🏾 Human impact like boating 🚤 and visitors have already taken a toll on the island’s ecosystem. Fewer birds are nesting here, and any more disruption to the ecosystem may collapse it. Life lessons with giraffes. I spent the day with the kids at the #SingaporeZoo last Sunday. We watched the giraffes feed on the leaves, marveling at their unique beauty and towering height. Yet, even with all their height, the leaves at the canopy remained out of reach. It got me thinking about the concept of "low hanging fruits". In #business, we often talk about tackling easy wins to gain momentum. I certainly do this with my daily to-do lists! Despite their perceived advantage, the leaves higher up seemed unattainable to the giraffes. What's low-hanging for one, may be a lofty goal for another.
