Engaging day in Houston discussing technology priorities with school districts around the region. An insightful conversation with leaders from Cypress-Fairbanks ISD highlighted the evolution of technology for teachers where they had to earn the rights to have access to new technology. It made sense as the technology was expensive, and the administrators wanted to put in the hands of teachers who really were going to get the most benefits. That changed over time with the proliferation of affordable devices and purpose-built tools to improve student knowledge and outcomes. And it obviously really accelerated during COVID. As we navigate consolidation, be mindful of the ongoing work to make this technology accessible and effective for all. Thanks to Ray Hartjen for summarizing how the 2024 National Education Technology Plan emphasized the imperative of addressing disparities. It’s a reminder not to lose sight of ensuring technology is inclusive and empowering to everyone. #EdTech

Teachers are a crucial factor for the success of technology in education. Making sure that teachers are well-prepared to use technology for instruction makes education systems more resilient and ensures continued learning during emergency school closures. Find out how the newly formed Global Reference Group on Technology for Education will work to ensure that technologies in education are used in ways that are safe, ethical and impactful, not only for groups in communities of privilege that have historically benefitted from them the most, but rather for all learners: http://g.pe/l5hg50RRI5i #FundEducation

Speaker l Co-Founder at Digital4Good + #ICANHELP l Digital Safety, Wellness, and Leadership Advocate l Empowering Students, Educators and Communities to Create Positive Digital Impact
New State was introduced to the Digital4Good x #ICANHELP programs at their higher education conference in Indiana. Indiana adopted a new law requiring public school districts to ban students from using cell phones and other personnel wireless devices during class time. Exceptions allow students to use the devices with a teacher's permission and in the case of an emergency. We still need to educate and empower our students and parents in digital safety, citizenship, literacy and wellness. There will still be issues that will effect their learning environments if we don’t educate them on how to use it for good. Good thing we have the policy to help the schools that attended our session to help them know what has wowed with schools have adopted this policy over the years. We need to create plans when we roll out new policy to support our school systems. Consistency eliminates confusion! #ICANHELP #Digital4Good
