🚀 Performance = Potential – Interferences🛑 In one of the books authored by Stephen Neale, Lisa Spencer-Arnell, and Liz Wilson, I came across this equation: Performance = Potential – Interferences. It immediately shifted my mindset on how I perceive my performance. I used to think that performance is solely based on what I have achieved, the metrics I've hit, and what I haven't achieved. Well, metrics are indeed important as they gauge our overall roles and responsibilities. However, what about instances where we perform mediocrely or just slightly above average? Why not strive for extraordinary performance? 🚀 The more I delve into this equation, the more I realize why extraordinary performances might elude us. We all possess true potential, and if we tap into that potential fully, we can excel in both our professional and personal lives. However, as the equation suggests, interference acts as a spoiler. The more the interferences, the lower the performance, and the less we utilize our true potential, resulting in diminished performance. What are interferences? Interferences encompass negative attitudes, beliefs, and habits. Identifying these interferences is crucial for personal and professional growth. 🧠 How do we spot these interferences? One effective method is to journal daily activities and note down any negative feelings or attitudes that arise during tasks. For example, if you feel nervous or worried about a meeting with higher-ups, jot down those feelings. Over time, you'll discern patterns in how interferences distract you. Can we eliminate interferences entirely? Achieving zero interference is challenging but not impossible. With consistent practice, we can minimize or manage interferences. Imagine working with your true potential and minimal interferences—this leads to exceptional performance! 💼💡 How do we minimize or manage interferences? There are many techniques, I would like to give one tip to manage them by flipping your negative thoughts into positive ones. For example, If your mind says “I am anxious about the meeting today with Higher-ups”, flip it to the statement “I am very excited about the meeting today with Higher-ups”, believe me, these flipping statements to a positive note will have a great impact on your mindset shift !! Keep journaling the Interferences and Flipping statements as well !! Keep journaling interferences and flipping statements for better self-awareness! 📓🔄 I was fascinated by this equation and started implementing it. It yielded great results for me and my mentees, helping us navigate challenging situations effectively. Remember, to be a great performer, focus on maximizing your potential and minimizing interferences! 💪✨

They aren’t truths, and they don’t define you unless you let them. Mindset mastery is about recognizing these false narratives, and more importantly, knowing how to break free from them. For example, if you believe you're not a good leader, find an opportunity to step up and lead in a small, controlled environment.
