This spring, juniors and seniors from University High School and juniors from Spokane Valley Tech worked through five hands-on stations, including CPR training, “Stop the Bleed” training and emergency triage, an operating room simulation, a step-by-step vitals review, and behind-the-scenes tour of the hospital. Career Day is an easy and informative way to show students the many different routes and educational pathways available in the field, such as beginning as a volunteer or COPE Health Scholar; joining the facilities, IT or kitchen teams; or pursuing education to become a nurse or provider.

Do you teach skills to pre-licensure nursing students? Then I invite you to participate in my dissertation study! I am a PhD candidate in the Nursing Education program at the University of Northern Colorado and am recruiting participants. Study purpose: To determine the proportion of undergraduate nurse educators that know or do not know about DP, what undergraduate nurse educators who teach psychomotor skills know about DP, how their understanding of DP aligns with the theory of DP, how they use DP in skills education, and their perceived barriers and facilitators to DP. Inclusion criteria: Nurse educators in higher education who have taught psychomotor nursing skills to pre-licensure nursing students (BSN, ADN, or LPN) in the United States in the past 6 years. Participation: Complete an online survey that will take approximately 10 minutes. Study link: https://lnkd.in/gvCkzMPB

🎈👏🎉 NURSES ARE EVIDENCE-DRIVEN. These are BSN students Madeleine, Abrar, Morgan, and Lauren who are wrapping up their third year of nursing school. Their evidence-based practice poster, "Pressure injury prevention in the ICU," earned a top spot overall at the School-wide poster session earlier this spring, and so earned a chance to attend UVA Health's Evidence-Based Project "day," which just took place May 6 and offered people across the health system a place a unit improvement ideas exchange (huge thanks to prof. Pam Baker DeGuzman, Kathryn Reid, and Meghan Mattos, who, with their teams, make this REAL). All BSN students take four semesters of R.E.A.L. across the course of their schooling, which offers Research, Ethics, Advocacy, and Leadership-infused learning. Working in small teams, they investigate a topic they've observed during clinical rotations and do a deep dive into the literature to find our more before figuring out how to present it to peers, professors, and colleagues. For some, the experience whets their appetite for more of this kind of work, which might drive them to do a summer research assistant internship, spur a Distinguished Majors project, and maybe begin to think about earning a doctoral degree. When nursing students get a sense of what research looks and feels like, and the plot points to doing an evidence-based research project, they're ready to use it in the environments where they ultimately work. The agency and know-how and POWER that understanding research processes allows truly sets UVA School of Nursing graduates apart. We are proud of their work and the voice and poise they develop as they dig in. We wish a very happy National Nurses Week to budding nurse scientists like Madeleine, Abrar, Morgan, and Lauren - and to #nusescientists everywhere who use evidence to forge real change that improves our practice and people's lives! 🧡💙🔬📑📚 #nursescientist #evidnecebasedpractice #nursingscience #uvahealth

According to @Gallup, “Graduates of community colleges are more likely to have professors who care about them”: We can’t speak for others, but at Central Arizona College we care about our students’ success. This is especially evident in our Health Careers where instructors work hand-in-hand with students to develop the skills necessary to successfully enter the workforce. Minnesota faces a major challenge: filling nearly 3,200 certified nursing assistant (CNA) positions by 2024. But a promising new program could be the game-changer. RealTime Talent (RTT), in partnership with Medica is launching a unique training approach funded by a $200,000 grant. This program aims to attract and retain CNAs, addressing the critical workforce shortage in long-term care and older adult services. Here's what makes it different: - Collaboration: Employers, community organizations, and training providers work together to design training that meets real-world needs. - Student support: Participants receive contingent job offers, training cost coverage, and ongoing career support. - Focus on inclusion: The program intentionally targets underrepresented populations to build a more diverse workforce.
