Every four years, three things are certain: We’ll get an extra day on the calendar, everyone pretends to care about athletics for two weeks during the Olympics, and a Presidential nominee will make a terribly ill-suited musical choice during their campaign.

When Barack Obama first ran for president, there was a small faction of black voters who did not support him because he was not "of the soil", meaning he had no lineage connecting him to the legacy of slavery endured by the ancestors of black Americans. Today, that faction appears to have grown in part due to what is perceived as a failure by Mr. Obama to address a number of socio-economic issues of particular interest to blacks. The pushback seems to have intensified as Kamala Harris, another person not of the soil attempts to be the 47th president. The Democratic Party does not appear concerned about the growing rift. Given significant black populations in certain urban areas and in southern states, the black vote is considered crucial to the Democratic Party. However, support for the party has been falling among blacks. Will 2024 see a significant departure of black votes. Can Harris get them back? #kamalaharris #election2024

The new South African Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture, Gayton McKenzie, has announced that the government will no longer fund "super fans" - extremely enthusiastic and dedicated fans who attend multiple sporting events and promote their love for sports on social media. The decision has sparked a heated debate online, with some people rejoicing and others upset. Super fans, like Mama Joy Chauke and Botha Msila, are seen as brand ambassadors for South Africa, but others argue that the money spent on their trips could be better used to support struggling athletes and artists. The minister's decision aims to promote transparency and accountability in the use of public funds. I Make the Words Flow. Narrative Storyteller: Writer. Speaker. Humorist. Breaking things down, one Black narrative at a time.
THE BLACK PERSON’S GUIDE TO WATCHING ENGLAND PLAY FOOTBALL THIS WEEK. Remember, it’s just a game. Your non-Black friends aren’t racist. They’re just upset when England lose and need to blame someone who just happens to share your reflection. It’s nothing personal. You should be grateful they allowed any Black players to represent their country. Because it’s technically ‘not their country’. So, pipe down, swig a pint of lager and get into the spirit of things. Remember to breathe if it comes down to a penalty shootout again. Be prepared to switch off your television immediately if England fail to win. Lock your doors and windows. Do not play any reggae, soul, R&B or hip-hop for at least a month afterwards. Keep your head down if you go out. Don’t mention the football. Don’t ‘look’ Black. Definitely don’t buy any plantain. If England end up winning the entire tournament, do not talk about the significant contribution of the Black players. Now is not the time to bring up race. The country is unified under a white captain and white manager. Not everything is about race. Get over yourself. And it’s okay to hug your white neighbours who voted for The Reform Party in last week’s general election. Water under the bridge. England won. Let the borders close in celebration. Hand them a patty and a red stripe. Share the victory. But if England don’t win the tournament – please seek legal advice before going abroad on holiday. Obtain written confirmation that your Black ass will be allowed back in the country with your valid British passport. Yu can’t seh mi nevah warn yu. Yu can’t seh yu nevah know…… #blackbypopulardemand #sticktofootball #therestisfootball #euros #kickitout

We want to recognize us. How far we have come in the last 100 years. We can vote. We are in government, with female heads of state, senators, representatives, Supreme Court justices, and more. We are in space. We are leading corporations. We can have our own credit card. We are winning medals in the Olympics and championships on professional sports teams. We can make choices for OUR BODIES, including deciding on the tools our doctors use to examine us. The new modern speculum Nella is part of women's century of change. Where will we go and what will we do next?

"Is there any good news to celebrate? | The Coffee Klatch with Robert Reich Robert Reich 587K subscribers Subscribed Share Download Feb 3, 2024 The Coffee Klatch with Robert Reich Today is the South Carolina primary, but rather than spend much time on it — Trump will get his party’s nomination — Heather and I consider the remarkably good set of economic reports that emerged this past week and what, if anything, they mean for Biden’s bid for re-election — and why more than 70 percent of Republicans say the economy is terrible. We also look at the U.S. military’s attacks on Iranian forces and the militias Iran is backing, in Iraq and Syria, in response to Iran’s drone attack last Sunday that killed three American soldiers and injured at least 40 others. Is this the start of a regional war? Along the way we look at the new Child Tax Credit bill, and why so many progressives are against it. And why the border security bill emerging from the Senate, as well as additional funding for Ukraine, are unlikely to pass (the answer is spelled TRUMP). Finally, we examine whether the Delaware chancery court is correct — that there is such a thing as excessive executive compensation — and why Elon Musk is living proof. Please grab a cup, pull up a chair, and join us. "
