Reflecting on the RIBA president's vision in the latest RIBA Journal article, it’s evident Muyiwa Oki champions a broader scope for architecture, urging us to embrace opportunities beyond the heroic 'Artist' narrative. Architectural graduates and Architects do have decent opportunities to explore non-traditional paths such as client-side roles, public bodies, and research - many often come from taking 'opportunities' during their careers. However, the 'Artist' dream is ultimately conjured and/or nurtured during the Architectural education. For some, it is then disassembled and reshaped after many years. With new roles such as the principal designer role, early career guidance and specialised training therefore become critical to develop an individual's specific skills, interests and ambitions as early as possible, and to capitalise on this diversity to meet today’s demands promptly. Even within the traditional practice setting, addressing diversity through technical career pathways is essential to ensure a truly inclusive and innovative architectural profession that remains competitive. #architecture #architecturecareer #architectureeducation #ribajournal #riba #thoughts
We can’t all be artists. Architecture is filled with many different opportunities. Why limit ourselves to just one aspect, asks RIBA President Muyiwa Oki PRIBA: https://ow.ly/xJTj50Sb00h

9moFully agree with you Muna! Especially regarding the early training of future architects in order to be able to undertake the BRPD role.
