🔵 3 challenges new innovations need to overcome to scale their sustainable solutions in the fashion sector ⬇️ 🏭 The textile industry emits 2-8% of the world’s greenhouse gases and is responsible for 9% of ocean microplastic pollution. 🔬 The development of innovative new materials can help solve the industry's sustainability problems. ⬇️ To do this, innovators must tackle 3 core challenges: 1️⃣ Cost requirements 2️⃣ Performance requirements 3️⃣ Supply chain barriers to implementing new materials 💬 As demonstrated in a seminar talk at The Sustainable Angle's Future Fabrics Expo, many groundbreaking companies are already addressing these challenges. 🔹 At Solena Materials, we design new proteins to develop fibres that are high-performance and non-oil derived. 🌀 However, the 2 most important factors that remain vital to scaling are: ➡️ Investment and patience. 🧵 New materials can’t be expected to be optimised and commercialised with a fraction of the budget and time that was afforded to plastic-based products. ℹ️ The lesson: Invest now and wait for the industry to inevitably catch up. ⏩ Reach out to work with us on our mission to reduce the environmental impact of the fashion sector: https://lnkd.in/eWg78RJe These topics were discussed in detail on the panel 'Innovations: reimagining our relationship with both materiality and manufacturing' with Christine Goulay, Maria Intscher-Owrang, Mira N., Victoria M. and Dali Naeb. #SustainableFashion #SustainableTextiles #TextileIndustry #FutureFabrics #NextGeneration #MaterialsRevolution #SustainableSourcing #LCAW24 #NextGenSolution
