❗Warning the following post contains details that may be distressing. Today, we honour and remember the tragic events of the Coniston Massacre, a dark chapter in Australia's history. Between August 14 and October 18, 1928, a tragic series of events unfolded in the Northern Territory, known as the Coniston Massacre. This massacre, which resulted in the deaths of many Warlpiri, Anmatyerre, and Kaytetye people, is remembered as the last known officially sanctioned massacre. 🌱It is crucial we acknowledge, remember and learn from the past to build a future grounded in Truth, Justice, and Reconciliation. #ConistonMassacre #Reconciliation #PracticalReconciliation
Those who are prepared to we acknowledge, remember and learn from the past may want to refer to the Colonial Massacres Map. This is part of the truth telling. This comes with discomfort. We need to be ready to sit in that discomfort in order to heal, grow and move forward together.
We must continue to remember, mark the loss, say the names and grieve. Then take action so it never happens again 💔💛🖤
I hope at some point Australia acknowledges and teaches in schools what happend as it was done in Germany after the Nazis. There is still a big denial which shouldn't be Things can only change if we acknowledge them at a first place and do better.
Thankyou for sharing Aunty Munya Andrews it is vital our horrific & barbaric history is acknowledged, remembered & shared. We need to ensure those innocent lives lost are honoured & new immigrants to this land know. Ive lived here almost 30yrs & still consider myself as a newbie. There is still so much i have to learn of our past.
I’m so sorry. I acknowledge this truth and the discomfort and pain from the wrongdoing. 😔
yes, crucial. Right there with you Aunty Munya. Thanks for the warning too. It’s hard reading about such dark events. For me anyway.
Thanks for sharing. I only learned about the Myall Creek Massacre at school. I learn something new from you every time you post.
