Thank you to the AACI (Association of American Cancer Institutes) and the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) for raising awareness of The Harley Jacobsen Act (H.R. 7418)! H.R. 7418 is a bill that Mural Health introduced to Congress earlier this year to help increase diversity in clinical research by removing taxation on ALL clinical trial payments for ALL participants across ALL studies. Yes. This. ESMO - European Society for Medical Oncology Patient communication and shared decision making • Information on diagnosis and treatment choice should be given repeatedly (both verbally and in writing) in a comprehensive and easily understandable manner [V, A]. • The use of reliable, patient-centred websites or similar sources of information is recommended [V, A]. • Patients should be actively involved in all management decisions and should have equitable access to the full range of reproductive care options including pregnancy counselling, contraception and fertility preservation [V, A]. This section highlights an important role of medical societies, colleges and organisations in the provision and curation of medical information co-designed with and for consumers, patients and their families. Would love to see more of this in Australia for the prevention, early detection and management of #breastcancer. Is there an opportunity for medical groups to partner with consumer groups? Melanie Walker BreastSurgANZ Clinical Oncology Society of Australia (COSA) Australasian Society for Breast Disease The Royal Australian & New Zealand College of Radiologists (RANZCR) Australian Society of Plastic Surgeons Kirsten Pilatti and Vicki Durston I'm not sure if they are co-designed - but Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists RANZCOG have some excellent examples of 'information for the public' on their website.

"Although patients considered both outcomes and experiences important, on average 83.0% of patients considered [patient-reported outcome measures] more important than [patient-reported experience measures] for choosing a medical team, with PROMs more important among 86.9% of the breast cancer sample, 82.6% in diabetes, 80.8% in inflammatory bowel disease, 79.4% in depression, and 86.7% in arthritis. Older patients were more likely to consider outcomes more important than experiences. These results suggest that outcomes and experiences are not viewed as the same by patients and that PROMs may need to be integrated to a larger extent into current payer efforts involving incentives to improve quality; these efforts could include value-based payment models that reward or put payments at risk based on quality performance.

Today is the annual Clinical Trials Day – a day to honour clinical research that is crucial for both individual patients and society as a whole. As we know, access to clinical trials may be the last straw for patients to overcome their disease, for example in cancers or neurological diseases, when no treatment is yet available or existing therapies are ineffective. 👨⚕️ The Medfiles Clinical Team is happy to be part of several ongoing and coming trials. We celebrate the sponsors, sites, study nurses, investigators, other CROs and above all – the patients – who make it all possible. Let’s keep up the good work and co-operation! #CTD2024 #clinicaltrials #clinicalresearch #clinicalinvestigation

Did you tell your doctor, "Thank you" or state to the medical staff, "Bless you" after your colonoscopy procedure? The patients' heartfelt gratitude was abundant at the Free Colonoscopy Day this past Saturday. HCB2 teamed up with Colon & Rectal Specialists, Ltd., Access Now of the Richmond Academy of Medicine Services, and the area free clinics to offer 15 colonoscopies to our community members. The preliminary results show: * 14:15 patients showed for their appointment. * 100% of the patients had completed their bowel prep perfectly. * 50% of the patients had polyps removed. 50% is almost 4x above the average. * Two patients had more than six polyps removed! Needless to say, lives were saved on Saturday. Why? The Free Colonoscopy Day service was offered due to partnerships and partnerships make a broader, deeper impact. HCB2 is blessed to have these partners. Sending the entire planning committee and medical team a high five, fist bump, and butt slap. Well done, kids! #colorectalcancer #screeningsaveslives #partnershipsmatter #HCB2
